Jess and Ty
Hey guys. I have a few little questions. Any help would be much appreciated and Im sorry if these questions have been answered in other threads. Ive been doing a bit of reading about what everyone feeds their dogs. My dog gets biscuits during the day, and a treat of some sort (chicken necks etc) and dog roll, rice / pasta and a small amount of boiled frozen vegies for dinner. So I wanna change his diet. Can anyone share their dogs menu's with me? Explain how you prepare it etc? Also, are there any foods I shouldnt feed him? He loves getting a little bit of our leftovers at night. Im already aware of chocolate, onion, mushroom. Anything else? One last question, my dog and my friends dog play alot. Ty comes home with little scratches and cuts on him. Is it ok to use Lucas Paw Paw ointment on these? Or is that just more for treating a rash? Please excuse my ignorance. Any suggestions, tips, ideas, opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou Jess
Bully
Hi Jess, I feed a BARF (Bones and Raw Food) diet with no cereal or grains. Scroll down and there's a there's a thread "Is This An Ok Diet For My Puppy?" I don't know if I've done it right - try "clicking" on this Is This An Ok Diet For My Puppy? There's a bit of info here. I've got Paw Paw ointment. I've mainly used it for dry skin, haven't tried it on scratches. I does say cuts and open wounds on the tube. I use Calendula cream for cuts and scratches or a Tea Tree Oil ointment if I think that the wound needs a bit of antiseptic. As far as bad foods - add grapes, raisins and macadamia nuts to your list. Hope this helps
Her Majesty Dogmad
Dont give your dog grapes, even one can be a problem - causes kidney failure. Also, don't feed them nuts - far too high in fat and can cause pancreatitus - very common at Christmas when people are eating macadamias etc. I give my dogs sardines and biscuits in the morning and then dried food and meat in the evening. They sometimes get things like Basmati rice, cooked sweet potato or pumpkin, and scrambled egg as a special treat.

Gayle.
My dogs get mostly raw chicken pieces (frames, necks, thighs, drums), lamb offcuts, brisket bones, a mix of mince, offal, veges, eggs, cheese, parsley, garlic, oil and Eagle Pack Holistic kibble with sardines. I don't have a set pattern to feed them, they just get a small morning meal and a larger evening one. Yesterday morning they had some lamb offcuts, last night they have kibble and sardines, this morning they are having the rest of the lamb off cuts, tonight they'll get a mince/vege mix (raw), tomorrow morning they'll have chicken necks, tomorrow night they'll have a mix of grated veges, cheese, eggs and parsley with the rest of the chicken necks. They have kibble about 3-4 times a week and chicken frames about the same. On Friday nights they each get a nice fresh chicken maryland each for their dinner cos that's what I pick up for them while I'm doing the grocery shopping. I think my dogs look fabulous. They are both young, have no health issues, they both have straight, strong bones, loads of energy and their coats shine.
