gsdog2
I'm after a Veterinary Behaviourist in Brisbane to help with a problem I'm having with my Goldie. I would prefer if they had an interest in Obedience Trialing as my boy is all but ready, apart from one small problem which I'm wondering might be connected with his shadow/reflection obsession. I've edited "Topic Description" in the hope someone might be able to give me some more ideas. Nothing against Cam Day - just wondering if there's any other dog Behaviourists, if not Vet Behaviourists, out there? Surely he can't be the only one in Brisbane :D Edited July 22, 2008 by gsdog2

gsdog2
Dr Cam Day - Queensland Thanks Staff'n'Toller. Have you had any contact with him, and if so did he help? I did know about Cam Day, but he's the only one I can think of. I'm wondering if there's any other recommended Veterinary Behaviourists out there, or Behaviourists, or is Cam Day the only one??? Staff'n'Toller
No I never have, I have had a fair bit of correspondence with Gaille Perry @ SABS who says he is good, there was a doler (trainer) on here who worked with him for quite some time doing the behaviour training side of things, she is not here much any more though. I think you can have a phone consult with Kersti or Gaille at SABS though, if that helps more...I think they just have to have a permit to practice in QLD? Mel. Through work. We always refer clients with behavioural problems to Dr Day. Err perhaps I should rephrase We always refer clients whose dogs have behaviour problems to Dr Day. Interesting concept ! Thanks Persephone . That's what I've been hoping for - someone who has actually had dealings with him (although I am grateful to Miss B and Staff'n'Toller for their replies). When you saw him you were happy with his help/suggestions? And by the way I did the same thing (googled) and same results, that's why I was hoping for more ideas here. persephone
Hi- must admit I just attended a couple of lectures he gave-and asked questions- not a specific problem - but he certainly was knowledgable and confident. Hope your problems get sorted , and you can relax!
WalandLibby
I really highly recommend SABS - and if you're lucky you may be able to meet with Gaille in Brissie (I hope she doesn't shoot me for saying that - but she's one of the most peaceful ppl I know so I'm sure she won't ;-) SABS Edited July 23, 2008 by WalandLibby
mita
Not a vet.....but for dog problems , I like Oliver Beverly from Clear Dog Training, in Brisbane. Have a look at the Owners' Comments on his website (& vets' comments at the bottom). http://www.cleardogtraining.com/ I wasn't too impressed with the vet behavioral approach to a recent deep-seated problem with a dog recently. It may have been just for this specific case.....but I found it to be trial & error (& therefore, costly).

Today I joined the Pethealth site (Cam Day) $33.00 for 3 months membership - apparently the discount I receive as a member will cover the membership fee. So, I ring to arrange an appointment and although I try a number of times there's no answer and I'm put through to a message. I get on the internet and there I'm told to get membership discount I need to book an appointment online. You have a number of choices for consults. ranging from phone to home visit. I chose a 30 minute consult in his rooms. $103.00 with discount . Ok, I think, we need to go through with this. I continue online but I'm getting concerned because it keeps saying proceed to shopping cart  . Anyway, when I get to the end I'm asked for my credit card details and it's showing me a tax invoice. This is before I've even SPOKEN to anyone. I don't even pay human specialists before I've seen them!!!! So now I'm $33.00 down and don't know whether to persist with Cam Day or count my losses and try one of the others suggested here. At this stage I think I'll make some more enquiries, although I'm getting frustrated as this is not helping my problem with my Goldie

Thanks nastro :D . I've seen Craig work his assistance dogs at Pet Expo and I was impressed. Where is Craig based, and would I have any chance of seeing him or does he pass most of his work on to his trainers? Mita I looked at the site and they say Metropolitan Brisbane, but I didn't see where in Brisbane. Have I overlooked it, and could you let me know where they're situated? WalandLibby I didn't know Gaille was seeing anyone up here. My problem is I need to see someone away from our home as they won't see the behaviour in his home environment. Did I say it was his Stand for Exam that needs to be fixed so it needs to be on unfamiliar territory.

mita
font="Arial Black"]Mita[/font] I looked at the site and they say Metropolitan Brisbane, but I didn't see where in Brisbane. Have I overlooked it, and could you let me know where they're situated? I think Clear Dog Training covers all of Brisbane in relation to support for dog problems. I think their training/ obedience classes are in an eastern bayside suburb. But as your Goldie's problem is about Standing for Exam (when in an unfamiliar territory), I wonder if someone with experience in training dogs for shows might be better able to help you? Would the Qld Canine Control Council know of any such person?
