Dracdog
I have baught a new pup he is a good looking dog from a good breeder and is already starting to pick up the basic training that I am giving at 9 weeks old. But he has a problem he does his poos on the patio not on the grass. How do I train him not to do it on the patio?

But he has a problem he does his poos on the patio not on the grass. How do I train him not to do it on the patio? Jedi attempted to poo on the tiles in our backyard once but I was standing right there watching and so I just picked him up and put him on the grass where I wanted him to go. He never did it again! Might be worth a shot?
GSDhandler
it would be nice to know, but my pup seems a little shy. she goes in the garden a lot, which i praise her like a mad man for, but she still rather oo on the flagsone under our washing line. to be honest, i am mainly grateful its not on the carpet, but it would be nice to know how to get her in the trees all the time. as i said she is shy so moving her is a bit of a prob,
Dracdog
I have tried every time I see him going to do his poos picking him up and moving him but you can not watch him 24/7 and now he seems to wait until i am not arround to do it.
dee lee
I have tried every time I see him going to do his poos picking him up and moving him but you can not watch him 24/7 and now he seems to wait until i am not arround to do it. Do you clean the area he has previously done it on with bleach or vinegar? The smell might be attracting him back and those cleaners will destroy that smell. Dogs do like to go in the same spot- my dog cracks me up, on our early morning walks she stops in the exact same spot in the MIDDLE OF A ROAD to do her poo. More considerate than on the footpath I guess Edited July 24, 2008 by deelee2
charli73
I taught Zoe to poo in one spot down the side of the house... When she needed to go I would take her down there and say "toilet" and praise her heaps when she went.... At about 9 months she tried to test me by pooping on the grass while I was watching but I growled and she ran down the side when I caught her, she did that a few times but she hasnt done it since... shes 13months now.. So it can be done!! and its so much easier to pick up when its in one spot..worth the persistence.

Jedi has made a habit of using one end of our yard so we always know where to look!!
GSDhandler
'm just grateful its not in the house any more, to be honest. she has a good habit of making it the back of the garden along teh fece line. just a bit of a pain that every once in a while she holds on too long, and drops em sooner, so i miss them when im doing picking up rounds, and my shoes do the picking up persistance is the key. More considerate than on the footpath I guess Thanks I'll try the Bleach when I get home tonight. I had been using the disinfectant my wife bought for the house. looking at the bottle now it is lavander scented which is probabley attracting him. boxerbob
I've had my little 9 week old boxer for 4 days now and over the weekend when I knew I could be with her 24/7 I made sure as soon as she wakes up or after she eats I take her out to the spot I want her to poop/pee in. I am using the trigger word "toilet' too and repeat it until she goes, which doesn't take long if you get her at the right time and then I praise, praise and praise repeating the word when she does. So far she has only pooped where I don't want her too once because I think she didn't want to go out in the rain and I wasn't paying attention to the signs. The other times in between meals and during play time she has taken herself out to go "toilet" roughly where she has gone before and I make sure I praise her when I see her doing that. Good luck. GSDhandler
its all repetition repetition repetition . *sigh* and time... and lots of cleaning products. i am always wary of bleach cause some pets are drawn to the smell and make themselves sick on it, eg, cats. big probs for them. and when we use CLR i have to lock Koda away cause she loves the smell and would prob have a go at drinking it.
