storm
what causes a dogs eye colour to change? pup is 4 months old had black eyes until a few days ago one is now half blue and half black the other eye is black. Is it lack of nutrients or just a natural occurrence?
Cavandra
Are you talking about actual pigment changing colour, or has the pup got an ulcer??????? Edited July 17, 2008 by Cavandra

Cavandra
no ulcers, so its pigment Do you have a photo? Have you seen eye ulcers before? the eye goes blue usually from a scratch.
ellz
Is it the coloured part of the eye or the pupil? Solid-colour or opacity? A photo would be very handy.
puggy_puggy
What breed of dog? Is it the iris that has changed colour? Could it be like human babies? They all seem to start out with cloudy dark eyes and then they slowly get their end colour.

The reason I know its not a ulcer is she has spent the last few days at the vets specialist. I asked that they check it I will try and take a photo Edited July 17, 2008 by storm

He's a very wise man! I originally started using it because of the taildocking issue....I'm all for freedom of choice. I was tossing up between Voltaire and the one about religions....you know, when they came for the Jews etc etc until there was nobody left to fight and Voltaire won because he was shorter!!! persephone
AFAIK- pups' eyes don't change colour at that age--- We can tell our blue eyed pups almost from when their eyes open- they stay that way from then. My guess would be an injury of some sort.... but if the specialist said it was ok- you have a 'special' pup
storm
Thanks will definitely get them to recheck it then. She is crated at night and supervised during the day and hasn't play with the others for ages. She sure is special, really curious now

Janba
My dally had the tiniest blue fleck in her eye as a pup - you could hardly see it and now at 6 it is more than half the eye. It is just the pigmentation going and nothing can be done about it.
