He has been fine but I noticed his stitches have started seeping blood - is this normal? Although bigger blood vessels are cauterised or tied off, when closing the skin layer a blood vessel in the skin it punctured. At the vets I work at we either just apply some pressure or place a small dressing over the incision site. We use a gauze swab or piece of melonin and some fixamol to hold it in place. This can stay on for 24 hrs if its clean and dry. I would only be concerned if the scrotum/sac was filling or the ooze continued. If this happened then I would take the dog to the vets to be seen. I have been trying to get hold of the vet but the line is busy Depends how much blood, whether it is bright red or watered down a bit. It could just be the stitches pulling. I don't think that it sounds normal. Keep on trying to contact your vet for an answer. My girl (3 years) was spayed just before Christmas. Apart from dried blood, it was pretty clean looking and no bleeding. Poor boy :D Give him a cuddle from me. I'm sure that he'll be bouncing around again in next to no time. ~*Shell*~ Posted July 11, 2008 Share Posted July 11, 2008 Zero's incision weeped a little when he was desexed (though he had had a testicle kicked back up inside him by his old owners, so had a 10cm gash on his tummy) and we took him back to the vet - he had been licking and caused an infection. puggy_puggy Posted July 11, 2008 Share Posted July 11, 2008 Is it bright red blood? If so then I probably would worry. If it's watery or brownish I wouldn't worry to much.
