kelpiesrule
Hi guys I have just had an email from one of my owners and she said her girl has just come into season again ! she is 12 months old and this is her 3rd season ! her first one was at 6 months, 2nd one was about 9 months and now again at 12 months. I have had a bitch who used to cycle every 4 months but this is a bit ridiculous. Has anyone had this before? Is there anything we can give her (preferable natural) to help settle down the seasons. She lives with another desexed bitch. the other 2 bitches in the litter came in about 6 to 7 months and one has come in now and the other due soon. Miranda
From memory I think mibolerone can be effective in lengthening the interval between seasons, it's certainly not a 'natural' solution though as mibolerone is an anabolic steroid. However if the bitch isn't treated the too frequent cycles will adversely affect her fertility and make the uterus much more susceptible to disease. I would take her to a good vet who specialises in reproductive issues.

wylie
Definitely agree she needs to see a repro specialist. She is at extremely high risk of developing a pyometra. She may also have ovarian cysts. Repro will also check to see if she is actually ovulating correctly.

We haven't had any problems with her, she has a had a litter, but after we mate her late next year she will be de-sexed.

Stitch
Just read your post. If they are in the Brisbane area then Phil is the Repro. Vet at West Chermside Specialist Vet Clinic and he is very good.
wylie
I agree Phil would be the best one to see. I had issues with one of my girls not getting pregnant and we saw him and had her checked for ovarian cysts via ultrasound. He actually talks to breeders as if they have knowledge and had a good joke with him at the time. He actually had a trainee vet in with him at the time and funnily enough this breeder knew far more than her.
