Teebs
Hey guys, just a quick question KC is going around town at the moment (pretty bad, got a letter from the vets warning about it) Both my guys have been coughing. Kaos had KC last year in WA, and it was horrid, snotty nose, and she didnt stop coughing at all during the day. What my guys have now is a cough, but only when they are excited, or are put outside to pee and its cold. Inside they are pretty good. Both are coughing up gunk when they do cough. I do have a vet appointment at 2 tomorrow afternoon. What i want to know is, would you take your dogs to the vets if they were not too bad? I have some cough syrup here i have them on, but not sure if going to the vets is a waste of time. I actually didnt take kaos last year, and she got over it within 2 weeks. Flaves
Teebs, that sounds like my guys a few weeks ago. I dosed them up on benedryl original for a week or so. I took Mitchi to the vet as she gets really crook with KC. The others were fine after a few days. So my answer is no i woul dnot take them to the vet unless they got worse. Teebs
benedryl is what they are on at the moment. I know that if i goto the vets, they are going to stick them on Anti Bios and send them home, and i hate drugging them up if i dont need to... J...
Darcy was pretty much the same, but I took her to the vets after a few days because she was starting to show signs of being "sore" i.e not wanting to cough because it hurt, and I was concerned about it settling on her lungs. Vet checked her out and prescribed A/Bs just in case. Luckily she was over it within the week. Hope your dogs are feeling better soon
Georgie-boy
benedryl is what they are on at the moment. I know that if i goto the vets, they are going to stick them on Anti Bios and send them home, and i hate drugging them up if i dont need to... They would only need antibiotics if there is a secondary infection otherwise they will be useless. George had KC in April and I simply dosed him up on Benadryl, kept an eye on him and it was gone within the week. If you dogs are well hydrated and generally seem ok in themselves aside from the coughing I would be holding off on that vet trip. Dose them up on Benadryl & keep an eye on them - the majority of KC will clear up on its own. Hope they feel better soon. Teebs
thanks guys, think i will stick to that plan. Dont want to throw money away to the vets! Will see how they are in the morning, if any worse, i will take them, if not, will call it off

puggy_puggy
If the are quite happy within themselves and just coughing and have gunky noses then I wouldn't bother with the vets. If they stop eating and don't seem right then some antibiotics might be needed. So wait and see. My pug girl had a strain of KC a month or so ago. She coughed maybe 3 times and for the next two weeks had a stuffy snotty nose. I just let her ride it out and she was fine.

haylo
Hopefully everyone who has contracted KC, is leaving there dogs at home. As it is a highly contagious disease that can be spread very quickly. It has a 2-12 days incubation period. Hope everyone's dogs get better.
