BlkLabOwner
Hi all, I have just picked up my new black lab pup. She is 7 1/2 months old. We went for a slightly older pup as we didn't have the time to feed a brand new one 4 times per day and give it the time it deserves in the early stages. Anyway, she (Jaya) is having trouble getting used to her new collar as she never wore one at the breeders. She scratches at it a lot and I've tried loosening it a bit, tightening it a bit but she still doesn't like it. Will she just get used to it over time? She's only been wearing it for about 4 days. Thanks, Sam.
♪♫LMBC♫♪
She will get used to it. I was lucky, we have been able to put a collar on our puppy from day one with no more than a bit of a scratch at it To make it easier for her, try to distract her while its on, put it on while she's eating, and play with her while she is wearing it. Have you just left it on her, or have you been taking it off? I wouldn't leave it on her all the time personally, take it off whenever she's home alone or when she's sleeping. But apart from that, try to leave it on her as much as possible, because the more she wears it, the quicker she will get used to it. What kind of a reaction is she giving you when you put it on? Whatever you do, don't cuddle her or baby her if she is sulking, you will only reinforce her idea that the collar is bad. As for tightness, you should be able to easily fit two fingers inside the collar.

We might start to take it off over night while she's sleeping. Hopefully she will get used to it in due course. Cheers, Sam.
