mirawee
I had planned on never taking a puppy to puppy preschool again after a bad experience where all pups were let off lead at the same time... which meant 12 week old bull terrier and goldy pups off lead with 8 week old small and medium breed pups. However, my first litter ended up being a singleton litter and I am wanting my pup to get some playtime with other pups of similar age, and no one I know has appropriate pups to set up our own play group. So I am looking a a decent puppy school. Any suggestions? Preferably close to the Perth Eastern Hills, but will travel for a good set up
Guest Willow
Vetwest Animal Hospitals have a new & completely reworked Puppy Preschool Programme, with maximum 6 pups per class, and off lead play, where appropriate with only two pups at a time. Some of the instructors are actually dog trainers, as well as vet nurses, and it is a reward-based programme (positive reinforcement) If you have had a bad experience in the past, I would encourage you to try them. StaceyB
Some of the obedience clubs would probably do a puppy pre-school class, most of them train at the CAWA grounds in Canning Vale. The CAWA website has a list of all the obedience clubs in WA.
WalandLibby
Maybe someone on this list is near you. http://www.deltasocietyaustralia.com.au/cg...rnaustralia.htm
mirawee
Thanks guys Have a couple of leads to follow up now. StaceyB, no obedience club in WA runs puppy preschool classes as they will not take dogs before they have had their second vaccination. Puppy preschool is for pups under 12 weeks usually and is about socialisation, not obedience.

Southern River train at the CAWA grounds Just checked... OK Northern Suburbs do, so I stand corrected, but I don't know that I would want to take a puppy who is not fully vaccinated to a heavily utilised dog park. It is also nearly an hour drive away... I always thought that CAWA affiliated clubs couldn't take unvaccinated dogs due to the insurance issues, but you live and learn

I was going to take my puppy to Northern Suburbs for puppy pre school, but now perhaps not! The other places they are held are all at vets - isn't that just as bad? (sick dogs in and out of there all day)

Drumbeat
Our puppy is currently attending puppy school at Northern Suburbs and we've been very happy with it - we even entered the puppy obediance trial last week! Having had a dog who had 'dog aggression' issues we were very keen to start socialisation early with this puppy.

The Rockingham Dog Club runs puppy pre-school for pups under 16 weeks too, but they run it inside the club rooms where the others dogs aren't allowed. mirawee
Drumbeat, do they do off lead socialisation or is it just obedience training for puppies? If they do off lead socialise do they have a secure area to do it of is it just in the middle of the park?
chicko
Mirawee if there arent too many puppys or more instructors they do do some off lead socilisation but if there is too many puppys for them to watch they just do easy on lead training it is also done in a secure area. If they do off lead socialise do they have a secure area to do it of is it just in the middle of the park? As Chicko mentioned they use separate fenced pens for the puppy class. Yes, the class includes off lead socialisation whre the class is divided into two groups so there are not too many puppies offlead at the same time. They have quite a good website if you need more info.
mirawee
Thanks guys have looked at the website but it didn't give any of this information Doesn't sound like what I want anyway. I don't need obedience training as I can do that myself (and don't want auto sits quite yet ) only the socialisation so it doesn't sound suitable anyway. I think I am just at the stage that I will just not worry about puppy preschool and let him socialise with older dogs that I know are good with pups
