2SBT's
:D hi, we are getting our new puppy in about a week, and was wondering were to pup her to sleep? Do people put thier pups in a box? In a crate? What kind of crate? If in a box where would she poop? Sorry if these are silly questions
Jigsaw
I highly recommend using a crate. It's a great way to keep your pup safe and a great toilet training tool. The crate acts like a den and most dogs won't use it as a toilet. You could also set up a puppy play pen with the crate in that and the extra area for toileting playing. A cardboard box will most likely be chewed to pieces in a couple of days or less depending on what sort of pup you're getting! There are lots of threads about crate training here and also toilet training!
Christina
People do all sorts of different things for sleeping arrangements. Some let them sleep on the bed which is fine as long as the pup can safely get off the bed. Not recommended for tiny pups. Box is a bad idea. No room & the pup will chew it. Some people crate. A warm bed in the laundry with some newspaper for toileting is fine. A puppy pen. The main thing is that your pup cant chew anything harmful, like wires etc & that it is safe & warm. It must have enough room to move about, food, water & somewhere to toilet. I like a puppy pen with some newspaper, water & nice warm snuggly bed placed next to my bed. The if puppy gets upset in the night I dont have far to go.

NoodleNut
Noodlenut-did the crate come with that cover? I am looking for one for a large crate... Look on Ebay under the name Pupper Power (that is the seller) I bought the pens, crate, crate cover (came seperately and bedding from them .. I could pick up as I am in Melbourne so saved heaps on postage ... good prices and honest seller (young couple known through another friend of mine). puggy_puggy
A bed in a puppy pen would be a good idea.
Becky in Oz
Has the breeder given you any suggestions? The breeder might have already started pup in a 'sleep' habit.
CBL
Oscar now sleeps in a little crate similar to one above next to our bed (though he is going to grow out of it very quickly). I have to get up to take him to the toilet about twice a night but he has settled in there beautifully. We also have a big crate for during the day when we are at work, and we put the little one in it - but he absolutely hates it - will scream for ages till he exhausts himself! Not a nice sound
k9kutz
I use one of the "wire cage" type crates as opposed to the plastic ones and just throw a blanket over the top and sides, but either one is good. for crates.
