Northern Suburbs Dog Training Club

Does anybody here go to Northern Suburbs Dog Training Club in St Ives? I was thinking of going down on Saturday with Diesel to check it out. I like Western Suburbs, but at the moment with the baby I think it would be easier to make it to a class during the day instead of in the evening.

I called and talked to them, it sounds good. They train to trial, allow a variety of equipment (will allow check chains if I want), will allow me to use food/toys/spit food and clicker as long as clicker is not in class. I asked a lot of questions :D

Any personal experiences, or people to meet up with?

i used to go - great club havent been for a few yrs tho altho im sure they are still the same...

Why are clickers not allowed in class?is that a normal thing?i've been toying with starting to use a clicker for my dog aggressive girl around other dogs at obedience but no one else uses them,maybe whatever the reason behind that club not allowing them is a normal thing at obedience clubs

I had a similar problem when I was looking for a club. They said the clicker would be distracting to the other dogs and if more than one handler was using a clicker the dogs would get confused about which click was for them!

ok,no one else i have seen uses a clicker at my club plus a few weeks ago when i spoke to an instructor to get some hints about getting focus she pulled a clicker out and showed how it's used,so i'm guessing that they'll allow it for me

4 paws - it's a common misconception (IMO) that the clicker will be distracting to other dogs or that if there were multiple clickers the dogs will get confused. I've been in classes before where everybody uses a clicker. The dogs may be confused initially (or distracted), but not for very long

Thanks for the feedback - sounds promising! I assume the clicker rule is to avoid confusion.

Hi Kavik, I was a member of NSDTC for 15 years before I moved down south.

Its a great club with some great people. I really liked their trialling classes. They always had experienced people to help with run throughs etc.

When I was there, there were some really good triallers who would help everyone.

i feel old now

But it was a good club then, used to meet in East Wahroonga. I'm glad it hasn't changed. They were really nice to my sister in helping trial her shetland sheepdog

I tried to join a few years ago with Darcy but every week I went (at the correct times mentioned on the website) they would never let me join and kept saying 'come next week' which we did and got the same response.

I ended up moving away for 12mths and did obedience down near Campbelltown.

I'm now doing agility with the boys at the Many club Might start obedience with them in the future, not sure though.
