weekendwarrior
What time is the event on? Can we bring our own dogs? Flyball displays are on 11.00a, 1.00p & 3.00p, the festival operates from 10.00am to 4pm. People do bring along dogs to the event but is not a dog event as such. Only AFA members are allowed to participate in Flyball. Regards, John

weekendwarrior
Hi everyone, my dog isnt much of a jumper but could he still be taght to jump and retrieve the ball for flyball? Thanks Where are you located, probably best to take him along to a flyball training session to get him assessed for Flyball. He will have to like jumping and is desirable that he have some ball drive i.e. picking up a static ball, not thrown. Regards, JB

I thought Deerbush had a Flyball team at that club? otherwise take a look at the AFA web site www.flyball.org.au and check the clubs link. Maybe PICSI club at Parramatta nearest to Fairfield. Clyde
Oh, so the Festival was re scheduled then? :D The shops told me that it wouldn't be after last weeks cancellation. Good to hear though, it's a good day out!
wherezaball
Hi everyone, my dog isnt much of a jumper but could he still be taght to jump and retrieve the ball for flyball? Thanks :D Hi smoothcollie If you checkout www.flyball.org.au and go to club contacts. Contact Southern Cross flyball they are training out of Deerbush these days and would be happy to introduce you and your dog to flyball. Any dog can do flyball as long as they are healthy and fit. It also helps if they are trim and not overweight. As for retrieving the ball. This is not a pre-requisite as it can be easily taught backchaining the behaviour with the help of clicker training. Some times dogs who are ball mad are often harder to train as they are too focused on the ball and not on the rest of the behaviours that make up flyball. good luck. weekendwarrior
Just a note that werriwa is not attending the St.Ives festival, they let me down and pulled out during the week citing a bad weather forecast!!! what commitment and respect for the hosts organisation of the event!! No matter, the Stormers will be there unless the event is cancelled.
weekendwarrior
Well, the weather at St.Ives turned out to be quite bad for the Festival but cleared enough at a few of our Flyball session times to adequately put on a display for the crowd that braved the conditions. The dogs did not seem to notice and after deciding on safe conditions for them put on two displays during the day which were great fun for all concerned. The third session was cancelled as dangerous for the dogs. Special mention must be made of Colin who travelled with his champion dogs 'Hayley & Angus' from Newcastle and also Craig with his beautiful dog 'Gidget' from Bankstown, both Colin & Craig indeed show great spirit for the sport and participate regardless of what points or titles are on offer and once committing themelves to an event stick to their word. I am currently organising a Flyball Day for the challenged kids at Camp Breakaway and will post details soon on that. Thanks to all that participated on Sunday and Ku-ring-gai council for their invitation. Regards, John
