laela (she is 3 months old) is having a difficult time walking, she will only walk when she sees either a person or a person and their dog in front of us, if nobody is in front of us she refuses to walk. is this normal? how do i go about training her to just walk without having her follow somebody? oh and is this normal?

so when a dog is near her, she obsessively barks. i believe she wants to play with the dogs because her tail is wagging and i have seen her play with a dog that is willing to play with her. how do i help her to stop barking at dogs and help her to socialize?

any advice would be great, this is my first puppy and i just need some help.

thanks

Yes it's normal, some puppies, especially small breeds, may take longer to leash train than others. I think your puppy may be a little too old for puppy pre-school, but contact your local obedience club, some of them have socialisation classes where she will be able to interact with other puppies in a controlled environment. They will also teach you how to train your puppy to walk on a loose lead, sit, stay, drop etc. and if you have any specific problems they will be able to advise you.

When our Cavalier had her vaccinations, we decided to take her for a walk. Well, she dug her heels in and wouldn't move.

She would sulk if she saw the lead and would hide. I tried everything. I tried to let her take me for a walk around the backyard. She just wanted nothing to do with it.

We took her to puppy pre-school at about 13 weeks (ring and book in now - perfect age).

I was worried how she'd go because she had to be on lead for some of the time (not during the actual training) and I think seeing the other puppies completely took her mind off it. From that day on, she was perfect.

As for the barking - not sure - ours has never really barked at other dogs.
