I use sweet potato for Kyzer's treats too, he loves it!

Still getting around to trying apple. ;)

Is that raw sweet potato?

Yes it is raw, I cut it into ~1cm cubes. He loves it.

If I need treats outside of the house, which I'm guessing you do, I put Ziwi Peak (regular dry food) into a glad press-seal bag. It's one of the best quality processed dog foods but very expensive, so I just use it for treats. The size of the pieces is convenient.

Yes, this is what I do also - a 1kg bag costs about $28 and lasts absolutely ages - a much cheaper option than the Ziwipeak treats and because they are so smelly, the dogs go mad over them ;)

Consequently, I am very popular down at the park

My boy is on a raw food diet, and I need some ideas for 'natural' treats and rewards. As he is prone to ear infections (yeast) I'm trying to avoid:
  • processed snack foods with additives etc
  • grains
  • any yeast producing foods

which is making it difficult to come up with a list!

Also, what do you think of products that claim they are 100% liver etc? I was given a sample pack recently of 100% liver drops and they are light and crunchy and I can't figure out how it can just be liver with nothing else added!

I sell 100% natural dried liver and chicken at my grooming salon in Adelaide,,, I know its 100% because we make it ourselves.. get yourself a dehydrator from a food store and make it yourself... only way to be sure i guess.

And dogs love it too! Don't they Louie?

My pups favorites are:

Kramar Supa Naturals

Slow Roatsed Chicken Liver Bits (100% chicken liver)

I nearly bought them for Pele until I discovered that they are made in China :) After that dog food recall in the USA and now the melamine in the baby milk, fergit it!!! I won't touch anything made in China :cheer:

Pele loves pumpkin, so I make Pumpkin and Liver treats. These were mentioned on one of my Bull Terrier Lists as many BT's are grain intolerant. Makes the icky liver go further

The Americans use canned pumpkin, but you can't buy it here so just dice and boil up the pumpkin in the microwave.

The recipe is to merely mix equal parts of pureed beef liver and pumpkin in a blender. Tip: Cut the liver into smaller chunks as it tends to get wrapped around the blades :cheer:

Spoon onto a greased cookie sheet (I use Baking Paper) and bake at 250F (don't know the Celsius conversion and the numbers have worn off of my oven  ) Remove from oven, cool a little, and cut each "cookie" into quarters. Wash cookie tray, put quarters back on UN-greased cookie sheet (blow that, good ole' Baking Paper again  ) and repeat baking process. It is just a dehydration process.

Pele loves them and wants to know when I'm making some more
