rexiam
I would love some input. I am joining an obedience club in 2 weeks and am going to take my 17 month old Golden Retriever. I really think my Dad's kelpie needs to go too. I want to know if it will be any use to take him as he is not my dog. I do see him once/twice a week. He is about 8 months old. Kavik
Obedience requires lots of practice at home, where you can go over the exercises with less distractions than class and lots of repetition. Going to a class and not practicing is not going to help much. So I would recommend going with your own dog. You can use what you learn with your dad's Kelpie as well. Classes are often more about training the handler than the dog.

RachelleBuck
My cousin trains one of my dogs for me. She is 5 now and while he only sees her a couple of time a week he loves her like his own and she loves working for him. I think more than anything obedience is great to get a dog out and socialising with other dogs. As long as you not expecting the dog to become a UDX dog over night it might be good to take your Dad's dog out just for some interaction. Kelpies love getting out and about.
