Has anyone used herbal products for worming & heartworming? Do they work/

These are te products I have been directed to:

I don't know about the herbals, but I'd use food grade Diatomaceous earth for worming. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a supplier in Australia for food grade....

ETA- So I found this http://greenpet.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=878 but I have no idea if it's food grade or not. Maybe I'll call on Monday...

I put my dog on herbal tinctures for preventive measures (heartworm) for about 6 yrs. I used to live in a high-risk area. So far, things are well. However, one vet told me that since the "medication" I used were for preventive measures, I would never know if they had worked for my dog. Her point was that commercial pdts have been "proven" to work. But she had no issue at all with my convictions to natural products.

I realised that after going on a barf diet, my mini schnauzer does not even need worming products. He has been on a barf diet for 5 years and I have no issues with worms at all. But I feed my boy Greenpet's herbal tablets once a week, just in case. Been doing that for the last 2 years.

I feed a BARF diet but there's no way I'd not use worming medication. My dogs run in country areas and ingest a fair bit of animal poo. Dog's are intermediate hosts for hydadit tapeworms and other worms that can be passed on to us - you'd never know they had them.

BARF is great, but it's not a substitute for a proper proven worming schedule IMO. The problem with the herbal remedies is that you're not going to know they're ineffective until your dog has carried a worm burden or heartworm for some time.

I don't understand why people think this?

We have tons of fleas here as it is sandy soil, and I know if I took my dogs off working and flea products they'd be infested. Fleas and worms can cause other problems so that is why I don't to treat them when they occur as they would keep getting infested.

Why not use Homeopathic ones, contact someone like Jackie Fitzgerald & place an order online.

I know alot of people dont bother with heartworm prevention, as it is soooo difficult to get heartworm, they have heartwrom tests done each year instead. The trouble with this is that in that tiny window of opportunity that the dog did contract it, the cure is quite horrid, I personally dont fancy the idea.

All the monthly products last 6 weeks, so I give it 6 weekly only through Summer.
