poochie
Hi All, Was wondering if any one can help with a young male JR (10mnths) that has started marking on every thing! Every door frame, the towel stand, the coat rack, the washing machine, table legs, he even got into the pantry and anything he could reach coped it. Even with closing every door, he is marking the walls? It only started 2 days ago, its my sisters dog and it has now become ridiculous. She has tried neutralising any where he's been, but it doesn't make any difference to him. He is one of 3, all have been desexed. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Cheers
sas
May be flamed for this but I'd give him a reason not mark inside. When we moved house Dante lifted his leg inside, he was corrected and didn't do it again inside.
poochie
She said she has tried GRRing, - Big Time. Enough to send every thing else in the house running. She put him in the laundry away from the others, as a reprimand thats when he marked the washing machine( no jokes) and anything else he could. Last night she felt so mean sticking him in the garage after he had got into the pantry, and she said he has spent the night claiming everything in there? Is this normal or would a trip to the vet be of any help? I have never had to cope with this myself before so am of no help to her. Cheers. Have their been any changes to the environment? New dogs, new people? When I mentioned repremands, I didn't mean a verbal one. I meant give the dog a reason not to do it again. You could have the dog on lead at all times and repremand it via the collar for marking inside if you wanted to take the more soft appraoch. There is also a product called a Belly Band for entire dogs that may assist. I don't think excessive marking is a health concern for the dog. ~Anne~
Put a belly band on him and take him out regularly to urinate praising him lavishly when he does the right thing at the right time. Sas - I still reprimand as well but I don't let this override the positive reinforcement method.

Yeah totally with you. I take praise for urinating in the correct area as a given as I can't help myself, even for adults I say "Good Toilet". poochie
Thanks, I'll let her know of the belly band? he's not an entire male, so not sure if it still works, for that matter dont even know what it is Will do some research. I know the first day she tried positive all day, and I think she lost it a bit the 2nd day. Sick of cleaning, She had him on lead to keep an eye and would yell madly and pick him up and run him outside as soon as he started, but she reckons its like he has an endless supply! No changes in home life anywhere. Thanks for the help. Off to look up belly bands Cheers

A belly band is a length of material that is 'wrapped around the belly and covers a male dogs doodle and joins with velcro over the dogs back. You place a sanitary pad in it across the doodle so when he wees the pad absorbs it and it doesn't go on your furniture. If you are clever you can easily make one yourself. Guest Piximatosis
Brody does this, he's also been desexed. Belly bands are the way to go!
~Anne~
TaJust looked them up, It doesnt make them go backwards in the toileting does it? No, it shouldn't. It is meant to be used as an aid to protect your furniture while you are training them. If you put it on and use it to do all the work then you have missed the idea of it. You must still be very persistent with training and the band will save your furniture... and sanity. She doesn't sew and believe me Im not that clever Cheers Me either

Off to look up belly bands Cheers Instead of picking him up (which from his point of view, could be seen as a reward) and taking him outside, leave a lead on him, and when he marks, make him walk outside - and leave him there for a few minutes. You could give a lead correction when he marks before taking him outside - if you are comfortable with that.
poochie
Thanks Everyone. Our only problem is finding someone who has them in stock today, can find heaps on line or stores offered to ordered in. She reckons she's that desperate she'll wrap him in anything at the moment. Cheers
