jeffm
Hi dog lovers i have a puppy that got a scratch in her eye and from when i noticed something wrong to when we got to the vet it was going cloudy just wondering if anyone has had this problem before and what effect comes fr mthe eye going cloudy and will it clear when the scratch is healed? sorry going back to vet tonight but worried about the eye cloudyness (cant wait to ask vet need to know now  ) jeff
Miranda
Cloudiness following an injury usually occurs because there's been some damage done to the cornea causing it to swell and thus producing a cloudy appearance. Any injuries to the cornea can develop into corneal ulcers so a trip to the vet is vital. Your dog may just need the eye cleaned and some antibiotic treatment, but the treatment really depends on the severity of the injury.

Stirling
Jeff, please watch your pup's eye closely. The cloudiness may mask a deeper injury to the lens. If the lens of the eye has been damaged (ruptured) by the cat claw/stick etc., the pup can loose the eye if it's not attended to by a specialist eye vet. Is the cloudiness at the front of the eye (cornea), or does it appear deeper? What medications did your vet give you?
jeffm
the cloudyness is on the outside only and she is opening the eye much more this arvo soon going to vet. the cream they gave us is tricin to be used twice a day (morning and night)
jeffm
sorry forgot to add they used the die and checked the eye out and its a scratch not too bad (i was told) which i have no problems with seen that before with other dogs but the cloudy look had me worried jeff
Stirling
Sounds like so far, so good, Jeff. And Tricin is a great broad-spectrum anti-biotic. When you go to the vet, ask if they can see if the lens is intact. Your pup should probably also be on carprofen (Rimadyl or Prolet), for inflammation/pain, and doxycycline (Vibravet), an anti-biotic specific to corneal damage. All the best, S. Stirling
And some Atropine drops for a day or two wouldn't hurt, either. This would keep the pupil dilated and prevent the iris adhering to the lens. (Sorry to harp on, but eyes are my "thing".)
~Anne~
Most eye injuries such as yours will heal without issue. If there was any rupture you would know it by now as the eye would be swollen and possibly protruding, and definitely red and painful looking. The cloudiness will probably completely dissappear over time, depending on how severe the initial scratch was.
qashmir
Most eye injuries such as yours will heal without issue. If there was any rupture you would know it by now as the eye would be swollen and possibly protruding, Actually, the eye would probably become soft and may even shrink, due to lens induced Uveitis. It would not swell.

I can ony go by what I have seen and experienced and rescuing and owning Pugs, I have seen a lot of eye injuries over the time. I currently have a bitch in whose eye ruptured and was later removed, her other eye was also injured and she has resiudal cloudiness still in the eye and this will probably never compltely dissappear. puggy_puggy
Ohh great news Jeff. Keep doing what you are doing. Some people suggest keeping the dog in a dark place or at least out of direct sunlight till they eye has completely healed. I am pretty sure that some also suggest Vitamin C to help in the healing. I If it looks worse again go back to the vets. Any eye injury you should go straight to the vets. As said before they will usually do antibiotics if it's not very serious. If it's serious they will refer you to an eye specalist.
