animallover12
hi how can you tell if the meat has preservatives in it i got a free sample yesterday and it was frozen so i let it thraw out and once it did there was alot of blood on the bottom of the packet, Does this mean its good or bad meat. Its chicken & heart from Count Dogula's they are selling it for $1.50 put are puting it up $1.00 so it will be $2.50 its in a tub like you get when you order chinese food the small tub. I can get meat from the butchers for $3kg but i'm not sure which is better.
Guest The Warden
Ask them if they put preservatives in it. Normal mince has blood on the bottom of the packet as well though?
rivergem
Generally I've found that all meat sold for pet consumption has preservatives (with the exception of a very few), 220 is a popular one they use. Any meat that is for human consumption is not allowed by law (my understandings, correct me if I'm wrong) to have preservatives. Blood on the bottom of the bag is normal - I buy lots of meat from the butcher and this always happens especially when I defrost it after freezing. The cheapest meat I have found at the butchers that I feed to my crew is lamb or beef trim or items like whole lamb necks or lamb breast etc. Jess
Guest The Warden
We definitely have preservatives in our meats here, one is banned in human meats as it causes cancer from memory and thats the same one they use in pet mince. animallover12
my mum was saying something about going into the butcher and asking for off cuts. Would butchers pet mince be any better or not? I did ask the guy if it had preservatives added he said it was all natural protein.
