macka
Hi, I am thinking of taking my puppy to this Puppy School at 16 weeks after her final vaccination. Has anyone been, and what is it like? Are the trainers well qualified? She's only a little pup and I'd like to make sure it's a controlled environment, not puppy madness! Cheers
Rysup
Hills is a great club, but I have not been to training for a few years. I am pretty sure you can go and watch before you join, so you can decide for yourself.
Janba
Hills is a great club and there instructors course goes for about a year and is very comprehensive. Also a lot of their instructors have done the CGC instructors certificate or the Delta certificate 4 in canine management. The puppy classes are great - I have taken 2 of my dogs to them and trained with them on and off for 25 years.
jillybean
I've been there for obedience training. The quality of the instructors really varies - some weeks you'll have a great instructor who know's the content inside out and backwards and who has a heap of great tips for you, other weeks you'll get an instructor that has NO idea what they should be teaching for the week or what you may have learnt previously. Just a word of warning - I found that they take their classes very seriously there, even in puppy pre school. So if you're going to go, be prepared to work hard training your dog! They're of the attitude that "dogs are here to work not socialise!" so letting the dogs say hello is a big no no..
Rysup
I went through the instructors course many years ago and it was most comprehensive!
GoldenWei
we took our dogs there last year, one was an older boy so started at week 1, Phoenix was a puppy so he started there when he was about 12 or 13 weeks. The puppies are up away from the rest of the dogs in an undercover area, its quite good, there's no "puppy madness" like there are at puppy pre-schools... ie, they don't get time off lead to play. We went up there before we started with the boys to have a look and were comfortable with what we saw. We sat in on week 1 of the puppy classes. The majority of instructors are very good, and give encouragement, which I always find helpful.
macka
Ok, sounds like it's a pretty good option. I think I will go and watch one week since it's a couple of weeks before I can take my pup anyway. Thanks for your opinions.
