Chocolate
I have a 5f which stopped cutting the hair. I had it sharpened but it still doesn't cut. Is there something else that could be wrong with it, like can they go out of alignment? If so, can it be fixed or should I chuck it and get a new one? Dogsfevr
Depends who sharpened it.The ailment should have been checked when sharpened. Aslo make sure the clipper tongues doesnt need replacing & affecting the blade.
dogcop
Who sharpens your blades what do they use ? diamond cut paste ? is the tension set properly ? do you regularly rinse clean the blade during use ? what type of dog are you clipping ? does hair get caught between the blades ? Are you clipping a clean dog or dirty ? what type of clipper do you have ? Chris

Are you clipping a clean dog or dirty ? what type of clipper do you have ? Chris A chap called Andy Stubbs of Professional Sharpening did my blades. I don't have a clue about diamon cut paste but he did seem professional it was a mobile service and he had all the gear in the van where he did the sharpening. How do I know if the tension is set properly? I oil the blades during use and brush out hair if it looks bogged. Normally used for clipping maltese/shitzu type dogs. I normally do a once over clip, then hydrobath and then finishing clip. I have a Wahl clipper. He checked the plastic on it and said that was fine. I think the problem lies with the actual blade. If I run it along the coat is just doesn't cut even though it was freshly shapened it made no different so I think there is something else. The clipper tongue is fine, the other blades work okay with the clipper. I feel like it is out of alignment or something.
poodle3081
The accuracy and tolerances when sharpening blades is critical and the honing wheel that is used is wearing all the time, hence the blades will vary and eventually not sharpen correctly. New blades can often be blunt and all sharpeners experience a degree of blades that are not cutting correctly. I would return it to the sharpener or get it sharpened by another sharpener. I recommend using a professional service that only sharpens clipper blades, as there are businesses that sharpen anything such as knives etc, and these guys are usually not specialists when it comes to clipper blades. Miranda
I will only send my clipper blades and scissors to a specialist. The people who sharpen knives etc. often have no knowledge or experience with clipper blades and can make a real mess of them. I use Clipper World in Melbourne. becks
I find oiling the blade can cause this problem, the more I neglect my blades the better they cut!

dogcop
Ok i know that many people will disagree with this but I keep my blades submersed in blue kero 24/7. i rinse the blade in blue kero then wipe the excess off with a rag. If the blade is getting real hot I rinse it in Metho then once it is cool rinse it in the kero b4 i start using it again. Ok why blue kero "it is a very light oil". I only get my skip tooth blades sharpened every 3 months or so as they are the ones that predominantly clip the dirty hair. I do find that some maltese and crosses have what I call a cotton coat and it is very hard to clip no matter what blade you have but I do find a finishing blade better but not always. this would be the only time that I would use a finishing blade on the first clip. Thus I get about 9 to 12 months between sharpens on my finishing blades. i agree with the previous coment about honing wheels wearing and this can be a cause too but it will not just happen with one set of blades. I use Andis clippers and have fantastic service from them. parts can wear i.e not only the tongue of the clipper but also where the tongue fits into the blade can wear too this is normally detected by a very noisey blade and decreased cutting performance. the plastic cover or wear strip on the tension plate can be worn out or missing. 4 Paws
I like to wash blades in a mix of 90% kero and 10% motor oil. Can also dip the tips of the blades in the mix when clipping to clean and cool blade, than wipe and oil
Poodle wrangler
I say try nicestmann77 also. Very helpful and good prices. He'll let you know the cheapest way to post etc. He normally tests the blades and sends a bit of fur with the sharpened blade so you know it's been checked. I had a similar problem with one of my blades after dropping it- am going to send it off to him.
nicestman77
I have a 5f which stopped cutting the hair. I had it sharpened but it still doesn't cut. Is there something else that could be wrong with it, like can they go out of alignment? If so, can it be fixed or should I chuck it and get a new one? HOW TO OIL & CARE YOUR CLIPPER BLADES!Thank you for wanting to know how to look after your equipment & blades. You will see a picture of a clipper blade, and the areas that is important to oil, where you see the YELLOW dots . only use a small drop of oil as it will end up in the next lot of fur it encounters, rememeber after you oil, let the clipper run for at least 5 seconds before you try to cut again, to let the oil to relocate all over the blade, and the blade to settle in, the main oiling has to oil from behind the tynes, not from the front of them. Also it is important to put a drop of oil onto the tip of the lever, the thing that moves the top cutter. If you oil correctly with Singer Sewing Machine Oil ONLY, it will soak into the pores of the metal, and when the blade gets hot, the oil thins & seeps back into play , hence lubricating the moving parts.(keeping things cool) You can buy "Singer Sewing Machine Oil" at any Woolworths for $1.97 for 100 mls. DON'T BUY HANDY OIL! TRY NOT TO USE THE OTHER COOLING AGENTS ON THE MARKET, AS THE SINGER SEWING MACHINE OIL WILL DO THE SAME JOB FOR VERY LITTLE COSTS. If your blades goes FRIZZY in the coat after you get them back from the sharpener, it means that the tension is to tight, (hot blades) or not tight enough (cold blades), if this is the case email me [email protected] , and I will show you how to try to fix it, yourself, the blade maybe sharp, but not set correctly, you yourself can do this with my FREE help.
