KodasMum
I am heading to the UK to live permanently this year as I'm getting married and we are planning on having my rescued Mini-Foxy cross Jack Russell join us as soon as possible. In order for that to happen I have been told that she has to have a rabies vaccination in order to travel to the UK under the PETS scheme and cannot leave the country for 6 months. Does anyone in veterinary care on here know what the possible side effects will be for her from the vaccine? She has had no major health issues since she was rescued at 8 weeks old after almost dying of dehydration in a Pets Paradise store in Gosford. I'd also love to know what suggestions people have for keeping small dogs safe and comfortable when traveling on long haul flights like the Sydney to London ones - can anyone recommend a good company that actually cares about the animals instead of treating them like cargo? The thought of putting little Koda through all of this is hard, but the thought of living without her is unbearable. Appreciate any information people can provide. Koda's Mum. Dogsfevr
PETS Scheme i believe requires in total 9 months prior to departure for the all clear. Start crate training your dog as soon as possible. As for companies what you want is a company that nows what there doing especially paperwork wise. It depends what arrangements you are planning such as the dog travelling on the same flight?? Or boarding it after you have left. As for rabies any vacc can cause issues but you dont have any choice with rabies. Start contacting all the companies as the prices will vary dramactically & get the ball rolling for booking flights etc as not all airlines fly animals
Guest Tess32
Unfortunately I think the Rabies shot is considered the most 'dangerous' in regards to long term and short term side effects but as it is law, millions of dogs have to have it. Some people do get around it, but I don't know if it's legally
