The Disaster Thread

OK guys,

Time to have the opposite of a brag thread.... God knows I need one!!!!!

Anyone trialling in obedience in Vic at the moment would know how frustrating my poor little man is at the moment :o

We started our open obedience stint in Nov last year, and at the first 2 trials pulled off 2 rather nice passes .... nobody was more shocked than I!

Now - since we've been back trialling, each trial we have come SO close, yet so far for that final pass..... and by SO close I mean SO CLOSE!

1st trial was a shocker - went around the jump for the ROH due to the dumb handler unable to throw in a straight line and thus the d/b landed WAAAY out of line of the jump..... so home we go to work on the ROH and make sure he understands how to correct himself from mum's bad throwing.....

2nd trial - again - stupid handler decided that for the distance control she could say his name before commanding the "down" (I honestly thought you could!!) which cost use a pass of 186.

3rd trial - EXCELLENT work by Leo. Under a very difficult judge, we were sitting again on 186.... but he dropped in the sit-stay :o

4th trial - average work by Leo - decided that where the d/b landed for the ROH smelt very interesting and thus over-rode the need to bring the d/b back to me :D..... that was another pass of 186...

5th trial - today - absolutely brilliant work.... couldn't be prouder of his heeling and precision in exercises! He was up, happy and apparently looked great.... what went wrong? Leo thought it a good idea to bring the d/b back to the judge instead of me........ looked at judge and before getting all the way there, gave her a confused look (as if to say 'you're not my mum!") and then came and presented to me..... of course missing the hurdle in the mean time! Had he done it correct... he would have scored 191 and likely 1st....

I need to know this happens to other people too!! His work has been SO good lately, it's just one minor thing he does wrong... and as you can see - it's always something different! So if anyone else has any stories/ disaster attempts - this is the thread for you!!! The dogs that deserve the 'wooden spoon'!!!

Spoke to you today LP but will still post

Today Cooper was sitting on a nice pass of 189 in Novice, then in the down stays decided to sit up after I returned to him and about 2 seconds before the judge said "end of exercise" He has never done that before. But we did well in the second trial so I wont post that here :D

Sorry (laughing very hard) I cant wait until you post in here what Leo did today

Oh yay - so you did get the 2nd pass :o.

Hehe - It's already posted above! Apparently a few dogs *almost* copied Leo, but thought the better of it before it was too late :D. Margaret Deaks must have looked 'attractive' to the doggies today :o

:o, it's now obvious I didn't read your entire post :D

I think all of the dogs (and handlers) like Margaret :), but there must have been something going on today that turned the dogs heads :D

Freya was sitting on a pass for Novice this morning, but decided to stand up for her sit stay! Never done this before. Last week she was more interested in the magpies outside the ring than heeling properly with me.

Glad to hear Cooper did well in the PM trial.

Hi All

Commiserations to those who were sitting on a pass only to have either the handler or dog do something that shouldn't have been done.

It happens at every trial and I can remember them very clearly.

What I'd like to know is: How come the dogs know that they are sitting on a pass and decide to do something silly in a different exercise each trial until they have been through them all and then decide they will do all the excercises properly each trial?

Do they read our body language and understand that we are getting too clever for our own good?

Oh well, there's another trial on next weekend, any one going to see how many more exercises their dog might decide to blow on the day?

:o Gamby I am in two next weekend (single trial but 2 classes). For every exercise we score on Ness is getting a treat :D and I am buying myself a chocolate bar. Oops she just better not pass everything as she could have one VERY fat handler :) .

Oooo Oooo Oh, yes I did meet the very pretty in pink Freya today. I think Cooper was in :D cos he went all funny with her :) She also rubbed on my leg like a cat. She a stunner :D

Bummer that she stood up, but we did have 3 dogs break right at the start in that excersise so I think it made some dogs a little uneasy ;)

PM trial we got second in ring on a count back :o

Aww poor Leo!

So your threats havent worked with him? :o

Maybe he's waiting to get a home pass at Croyden?

Ohhh I kinda have one, but I think its more me than Molly! I realsied before we went in the ring that Molly only has 4 points until her next flyball title, and she decided she wasnt going to jump the jumps anymore :) I jinxed myself!

Oh dear. Poor Leo....I think he really wants to come and live at my house.

We don't do anything quite so important as obedience trials and we probably never will because Benson develops a combination of ADHD and Alzheimers when we get to obedience class. Yesterday the instructor was looking to pass some dogs up to the next class and Benson forgot every single SIMPLE command, stood in the sit stay and sat in the drop stay. We'll be in grade one forever, I fear.

ROFL - see this thread was a good idea - I don't feel so bad now!!!

Jules P - this is WORSE than CCD - at least I knew the problem was stays then, and I think he only blew 1-2 passes :o.... not FIVE!! :) :D....

I know the REAL reason is that he just doesn't want Kinta to come out and strut her stuff..... so yep Shoey - threat isn't working :D

Capanash - comiserations for Freya's silly behaviour - maybe it was something in the air.

Gamby - best of luck next week - hope to see you in the BRAG thread as opposed to the DISASTER thread :o We have an agility trial next weekend ;)
