Tiggy Posted March 26, 2008 Share Posted March 26, 2008 My 11 month old Stafford won't eat chicken bones(frames, chicken leg ons, wings) anymore. He use to eat them then one day he wasn't interested anymore so I stopped feeding them for a month then tried a chicken frame today and he's still not interested. He will eat chicken BARF patties. He'll eat lamb necks, kangaroo tails etc but sometimes leaves them to. It's almost like he can't be bothered chewing on a bone. Has anyone elses dog stopped eating something it use to like. Cavandra Posted March 26, 2008 Share Posted March 26, 2008 Could have got one stuck or spiked his mouth with one etc and now has a phobia about it...Could have a sore throat ie tonsillitis & will only eat soft foods cos of it............Check his teeth & down his throat to make sure he doesnt have something stuck , piece of toys, or something . I have seen a dog with rotting decaying threads of string wedged in his teeth that went down his throat, it was obviously there for some time & the smell of infection was the first thing I noticed when I groomed him, this is what the culprit was, part of a chew rope toy, I removed it & he had antibiotics as his throat & gums were infected due to it....just worth checking. Now get some chicken necks, put one in a freezer bag and hammer it. Give it to him and see what happens. If he eats that no worries, then next time, dont bash them so bad. You will soon having him eating a full chicken neck. Then you can try the other chicken parts. I have to do this with Tiffany, her teeth a worn down, but she stills gets a chicken neck down. I give him BBQ chicken (minus the bones) and he woofs it down, Give him a raw chicken carcass and he won't touch it... Chicken wings are a go but not chicken necks or legs... :D He will sometimes eat Lamb necks but he doesn't like them too much but will eat maybe one a week... He loves lamb chops but they have to be cooked so no bones..... He will only eat beef mince cooked and not raw... His father is the same they basically both prefer Cooked over raw....
