I have just brought home my 8 week old Aussie Terrier puppy who has had her first lot of vaccinations. I have been told not to walk my other 2 adult dogs in public places until my puppy has had all her vaccinations, because my other dogs could bring the parvo virus back into the home on there paws. I was just wondering if this is possible or have i been misinformed?

Thanks in advance :coffee:

Yes it's true and possible. Not sure how really likely it is though considering you've all been walking everywhere for years and parvo can exist in your house and backyard for months.

I didn't walk my dogs anywhere except the neighbourhood and also did take my shoes off until my pup was safe.

You should be able to give the Nobivac injection as early as 10 weeks, wait 14 days and your pup should be safe. I did a titer test after the 14th day to make sure my pup's vaccination had worked :coffee:

A word of warning though - some vets say after 7 days they are fine to take out but I had my puppy titer tested early and he was NOT safe at 7 days, but was after the full 2 weeks.

Thanks for the advic Tessa32 I will only take my other 2 dogs on their usual walk until I know my pup is safe, I live in a rural area so hopefully their isn't much parvo around anyway.

Parvo is everywhere, even your backyard and unfortunately rural is just as contaminated as urban. The idea is not to let pup come into contact with a large volume of spores while protection status is uncertain. Stay away from areas such as parks and similiar where dogs are frequently taken and toilet. Stick to pavement. A lot of people wash their dogs feet and change shoes at the front door until 'safe' and ask visitors to do the same. I always wash my floors daily in either bleach or a virucide when foster pups are in residence and high risk tiems such as kids bikes (the tyres always seem to have dog poo on them) are banned from the house and backyard.

Congrats on the new pup!
