Darien
My Border Collie bitch is nearly 7 years old now and over the past 12 months I have changed her diet, from kangaroo mince to prime beef mince. Since then I have her scratching and her coat is now very dry. The only reason I changed is because beef mince was cheaper and smelt better for me. She also has vegetables, bones and pasta. Oh and also yoghurt. What is the difference? I will put her back kangaroo mince. I am just dumbfounded at the difference.
Dogsfevr
Beef is well known for causing skin issues thats why we say avoid it like the plague. The pasta aswell is also a skin issue causer. We put in all our paperwork not to feed beef as a main meat as it causes stomach upsets & skin troubles. Awful stuff for dogs Edited March 24, 2008 by settrlvr

InspectorRex
I agree too- we avoid beef and pasta.Rather feed chicken and rice with their eagle Pach holistic
Janba
I have the same problems with my b/w BC boy if he gets too much red meat. I feed him a chicken mince that is the whole bird - bones and meat - and his skin is good other than when he has an allergy. I also give him a fish oil capsule 3 or 4 times a week. Guest Tess32
I never like the idea of feeding just one kind of meat. Maybe beef doesn't agree with her though. I do feed beef but only once a week or twice at the most. Not all dogs do badly on it. Can you give a variety? I feed per week - chicken, lamb, beef, duck and goat as well as fish. InspectorRex
Beef is well documented as causing skin problems in several breeds of dogs, especially double-coated breeds as it heats the blood up which in turn heats the skin up then you have the whole allergy thing happening. HeartandSoul
Um IR - where is the proof of this? While I agree that red meat can and does cause allergies the reason APPEARS to be because of the type of protein - not some witchcraft having to do with heating up the blood
