Alison
I am after a pair of double sided thinning scissors. I have pretty much narrowed it down to either 1. Wahl 5.5" 2. Wahl 6.5" 3. Shear Magic 6.5" What size would be best for a Golden Retriever? Would I be right in assuming that 6.5" is the standard? At the moment I will be using them to trim his neck, he is only a 6 month old puppy so not much grooming required, but I would like them to be able to do what I need them to do when he has his full coat too. I don't want to spend a fortune, but want a decent pair, I am happy to pay what these lot cost. What is everyone's thoughts on these scissors? Doggrooma
Hi, Its really about personal choise more than anything else. I only use single sided thinners in the salon and 5.5's because thats what im used to I guess. Have a try and go with what feels comfortable. The Wahls are good, I dont have a problem with them ever, and I use mine constantly, you would get alot more out of them than I do and I only have to sharpen them every few months Another nice scissor are Jaguars but you are jumping up again in price. goldielover
I have a pair of the Wahl double-sided thinners (i think 6.5") - they're very good and reasonably priced. You can buy them from Clipperworld in Cranbourne.
Alison
I am pretty sold on the Wahl and was planning on getting them from Clipper World, it's nice and close. I hope they allow pick-ups to save on postage seen as it's only 5 minutes down the road.
Dogsfevr
i dont use double sided either as i dont like the finish it gives. We use the wahl but the size doesnt worry me its more about the teeth. Buy the wrong ones & you will hack the coat out especailly if this is a showdog your doing & want the most natural look after trimming
Springergirl
I have some Ali. Have NFI what size they are but you can give them a whirl first if you like?
becks
It's best if you can try before you buy (I don't mean on a dog, but to feel how they are in your hand) I use the double sided (don't have the patience to use the single sided ones and they have the advantage that they don't seem to need sharpening and mine are over 20 years old!!) Mine are 6.5 inch. So long as you move between each cut, you get a very nice, natural finish with them
goldielover
Also maybe check what your breeder recommends?
