Legacee
I dont like taking chances with bones. I only ever give large marrow bones split down the middle and brisket bones. All these can be cut smaller also for smaller dogs. Ive never fed pork bones.

Guest Tess32
Just see if your dog CAN eat them if they are sensible eaters. I give my pup bones and see how he goes. If he doesn't think he can do it, he leaves it. Dogs can digest bones :D

Does nayone konw how they manage to digest bone/cartilage?Thanks They should be able to chew on it and break the bone and cartilage down into small enough pieces for them to digest. Lately I have been feeding the pugs lamb backbones cut down the middle.
rose of tralee
The low stomach pH of a healthy dog is there to digest meat, bone and cartilage.
chuckie500
What I don't understand then is how come you hear stories of how a bone caused an obstruction if their stomach acids are supposed to digest them. i don't get it.
Ashka
As I understand it a dogs' digestive system adapts to the diet it is fed. A totally different meal will usually cause diarrhea as the enzymes needed to digest it are not available in sufficient quantities. A large quantity of Bones will cause constipation / blockage in a dog not used to them. Probably not enough acid available. Change over slowly and give one or two RAW chicken necks first as they are one of the easiest bones to digest. Pork I steer clear of, many dogs can't digest it. Please never feed cooked bones or the brittle smoked / cooked bones from the pet shop.
