Pain In Her Hips / Back Legs

 Share

Recommended Posts

I came home from work this afternoon and noticed Roma was standing strangely on her back legs. She was reluctant on her walk (she usually runs around when we get to the oval but not today) and she has also been yelping.

How likely is it that it's arthritis?

She is a Lagotto and will be 8 in July

I will book her in to see the vet tomorrow but just wanted to get some opinions here first.

edit to add- I will discuss treatment options after we receive a diagnosis but in the mean time, what can I do to make her more comfortable? Should I stop taking her for walks?

Sorry to hear your girl is not feeling so happy...

I am not au fait with the breed but can say that in hindsight arthritis generally has some warning signs such as slowing down, reluctance to jump, slower to rise etc.

It sounds quite possible that she is sore for either another reason or a combination of more than one. Since you were out when she became sore there is no way to know if she aggravated a pre-existing condition with dog silliness

While you are waiting to see the vet absolutely no exercise, treat her as you would if you were sore and TLC until you know further.

ETA if it cool at night wheat bags/hot water bottles etc may help alleviate discomfort

It is possible that Roma has pinched or pulled something from having the zoomies or something similar while you were out.

Exactly what happened you will probably never know but i would be guessing that Roma has something out in the back, pulled muscle or a pinched nerve.

We came home once to our 6 year old Rotty and she was all strange in her rear and trembling, she would also yelp if we touched her.

Took her to the vet and they gave anti inflams and said rest. We then took her to have some manipulation and she had 2 pinched nerves in her spine, after her little massage she was running around like normal again, a little check up a few days later and she was fine.

We still gave her the ant inflams though to help with the pain that was caused and the swelling due to the injury.

I'm not sure if there is a Myotherapist, chiro or someone similar in the area that you can get to also check her out, considering that it sounds sudden and not over a period of time i would be thinking that it isn't arthritis. We see a greyhound guy and he is awesome with the dogs and they love him as he always makes them feel better.

Good luck and i hope that she is feeling better soon.
