Law
Hello my ACDx Trixie has a pretty thick coat and no matter how long I brush her for there always seems to be loose hair. It seems to be fluffy underneath and smooth on top and very waterproof which is annoying when washing her as it takes ages to get her entirely wet. I was just wondering if any one could advise me on what brush I should be using on her to get rid of all of the excess hair. Or if there is a system that I should be doing. Dont know much about grooming so any info would be greatly appreciated
Miranda
I don't have short coated dog, but I use a comb to get rid of dead hair in the topcoat, get one with reasonably close teeth and comb through with short, quick strokes using your thumb at the front of the comb to help grip the hair. Many people underestimate the importance of a comb in grooming dogs. ETA you may also find that a Mars Coat king would be effective, but as I say I have no experience with short coats so I'll leave that for someone else to answer. puggy_puggy
Would a stripping/shedding blade help? I use one that looks like a hacksaw blade bended in an oval with a handle on the end for the pugs. Works a treat.

Many people underestimate the importance of a comb in grooming dogs. I agree, a very very fine toothed metal comb will do the trick. It's amazing the amount of hair I get off Labs and Rotties for example with the metal comb. It gets right down to the skin and removes 90% of the loose hair. There is also the option of a furminator, but IMO the comb works better and a furminator is very pricey.
ShesaLikeableBiBear
Recommend you look at a Zoom Groom, they get a lot of hair out and you can brush in a circular motion.
Poodle wrangler
I use a "slicker brush" on my sister's short haired RidgebackX- takes off alot of fur, but you must get a GENTLE one. He likes the gentle scratching. Some feel like torture devices. Don't get "firm" for an ACDX. I saw some decent-looking ones in BiLO the other day

Kavik
I use a fine comb with close teeth on Zoe - amazed that I got nearly another dog's worth of hair off a Kelpie the other week!
