Ripley
Helen put up one and I've just seen this one. The prize is a $15,000 trip so get cracking! Details here: http://www.peregrineadventures.com/imageso...rld/default.asp I've sent it to my work colleague who took wonderful shots from her trip to Tibet of the people and landscapes. She has been doing photography since high school. Anyone out there with great travel shots should enter this comp. That doesn't include me atm, but maybe it will when I get this new lens and take another trip, who knows? ** 2008 PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION One of the great things about travel is the way it can take you out of the everyday, where simple experiences can become rich moments of happiness and clarity to treasure in your memory. Really good travel photos can transport anyone to that moment in time. A great travel photo is a moment in time and in place. This year, we are asking again for your best Images of the World. We are looking for those special shots that are not only technically great, but they also tell us a story, transport us to that place, and let us understand the moment. It's a great chance to share your best travel photo with the world, and to win a fantastic prize. As with last year, there are five categories to enter: Wildlife, Active Adventures, Culture & People, the Environment and Family Adventures & Fun. This year, Peregrine has teamed up with Nikon, GORE-TEX ® and Australian Geographic to offer the following great prizes for the 2008 competition: Overall winner: • Peregrine Adventures holiday to the value of $15,000 including international flights • Nikon camera equipment to the value of $5000 • GORE-TEX ® Pro Shell Jacket valued at $700 • Two-year subscription to Australian Geographic Category winners • Peregrine Adventures travel voucher to the value of $1000 • Nikon camera equipment to the value of $1500 • GORE-TEX ® Paclite ® Shell jacket valued at $449 • One-year subscription to Australian Geographic Category runners up • Peregrine Adventures travel voucher to the value of $250 • Nikon camera equipment to the value of $500 • One-year subscription to Australian Geographic Vote and WIN Everyone can get involved in the judging. Vote for your favourite images and go into the draw to win the monthly prize - a GORE-TEX ® Paclite ® Shell jacket worth $449! Plus the photographer of the winning monthly shot will get a one-year subscription to Australian Geographic. helen
Great prizes but you need to always read the fine print (terms & conditions) before entering any competition This is part of their terms, taken from the website 7. Copyright You must be the sole author and owner of the copyright for all images entered. By entering your images into the competition, you grant to Peregrine Adventures Pty Ltd, Nikon Australia, Australian Geographic and W.L Gore & Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd an exclusive, worldwide, perpetual licence to reproduce the images, without compensation, for any purpose (with credit where possible) including, but not limited to, the following: judging the competition and display of the winning entries on websites and other promotional material inclusion within the Peregrine Adventures Pty Ltd, Nikon Australia, Australian Geographic, W. L. Gore & Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd brochures/journals, websites, printed and or electronic advertising, promotions and editorial publicity or similar inclusion within promotion of the competition organised by Peregrine Adventures Pty Ltd, Nikon Australia, Australian Geographic and W. L. Gore & Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd. use on competition website. In addition, you grant Peregrine Adventures Pty Ltd, Nikon Australia, Australian Geographic and W. L. Gore & Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd. the right to sub-licence images to the press for reproduction in connection with the competition and/or general publicity. For me I would be happy to post an image (if I actually had one worth entering) but you need to be aware of the conditions Edited March 6, 2008 by helen
chezzyr
Always check the reference to copyright. From my understanding simply by entering you give away your rights to your image. They can use it for any purpose, for promotions, in brochures or give it to companies like Nikon to use for their own purposes and so on. All this without any compensation to the photographer. It looks like they ask for worldwide exclusive use of the image??
helen
That is usually the trade-off for the big prize compeitions
chezzyr
They do cover some Aussie destinations (for those who haven't been to one of their overseas destinations). This page lists the places: http://www.peregrineadventures.com/Brochures.html
Ripley
OK - you guys have had experience with this. I'll amend my first post. Marketing ploy too. I haven't travelled with Peregrine as they are too expensive but I'm on their newsletter email as I requested a brochure once.
helen
Ripley, it is good to know about the competitions, they are not bad, you just need to check out terms to make sure you are willing to oblige - if you are not interested in using the photo for anything else then it would be an excellent comp
chezzyr
Seems a legit comp, but its like some others like those Centro/Smile comps where you really have to suss out the fine print and be absolutely sure you are fine giving your picture to them for whatever uses they choose (which may include giving the image to other companies to use). I have seen some comps say the copyright remains with the photographer and that they (the comp) will only use the images for the purposes of the comp which is fair enough. Ripley
I think Lonely Planet run a travel photo comp - competition is fierce. I have Lonely Planet's Travel Photography book which is by one of their well known photographers. It is LP book sized so small enough to pack and contains tips on shooting people, wildlife, indoor scenes, markets, buildings and all types of landscapes from waterfalls, mountains to coasts. I've learned a lot from reading it but you have to have a basic understanding of how your camera works and exposure to start with.
rubiton
Exactly chezzy - some comps (rare ones) say only using image for promotion of said comp (these usually seem to charge a fee to enter) but so many bascially take the rights to the photo. Think I've only ever entered two photo comps and they were local and to promote an event or place not a 'photographer comp' as such.
