Arky
I have also since found out that the anti-inflammatory drug they were going to prescribe Arky was Previcox. Since then, I have a read a few stories like this one: http://www.k911.biz/Petsafety/DeathByPrevi...astVacation.htm So, don't knock me for wanting to make the right decision please. Gretel
My old Cav was on Previcox for quite some time and it helped her enormously She had a new lease of life.
Guest Tess32
There's nothing wrong with NOT following the vet's advice if you are uncomfortable about it. They do not always know best, and unfortunately it's sometimes hard to find a good one. I hope your second opinion brings better news
Poodle wrangler
Best wishes for Arkie. You're quite right that the NSAID family of drugs can have serious side effects. But they are also very effective. I've worked with humans who have been on these drugs and many reckon they'd rather accept the risks and have good pain relief (these were people at higher than average risk of side effects because of other medical problems). cavNrott
Thanks for the additional info.Seeing that the first attempt to diagnose him was useless, we are booked in for a second opinion with another vet tomorrow morning. That's a good idea. I don't always take vet advice either but I get a diagnosis first then do what I think is reasonable. I also go for a second opinion if I think the first vet's talking through their hat. I think you're on the right track now. My arthritis dog started on anti inflammatories and now she lives drug free on supplements only. She's an old dog.
