renetta
Hi All, We're getting our new puppy this Sunday, and he will have a lot of doggy friends ranging from the ages 1 year ole to 15 years old. His had his first vaccenation on this past Saturday and I just wanted to know how long I have to wait to show him off. I'll post some photo's as soon as I can. Thanks
Odette
My puppy didnt meet other dogs till puppy preschool, and i think that was before her second shots but after first (it might have been after 2nd shots though, i cant really remember). We had to show proof of vaccination before she could join. After that we let her play with my boyfriends parents dog and my mum's dog, who are all vaccinated, at home, she didnt meet any other dogs until about 2 weeks after her third shots. jaegertheweim
Not counting puppies his age at pre-school, my boy had his first socialisation with my friend's 1yo shih-tzu at 10 weeks of age and later her 7yo dacchie and 12yo rottie at 11 weeks old. He had only had his first set of shots during these play dates so what I did probably goes against what the recommendations are but I trusted my friend and knew that her dogs were vaccinated and healthy. Plus it was very important to me to socialise my dog well when he was young so I always made sure it was done carefully.
renetta
Thanks for your help. I've got him booked in for his pre puppy school in a couple of weeks so I wasn't too concerned about that. And I trust all the owners of the dogs his going to play with. He'll get his 2nd shot early April, but I also think it's important to socialise him at a early age. Law
You can let him meet dogs that you know well that have had all of their injections. Try and keep him away from strange dogs until he is fully vaccinated, but you can still take him out places just be careful. At this age you want to be exposing him to everything you possibly can but just keep in mind that you need to be careful
