Help Please! Puppy Peeing On Bed :(

Hi everyone

Our golden retriever puppy has been relatively good for the past few weeks with toilet training, still has accidents inside the house but has been much better lately!!

However, he has started peeing on our bed!! Twice in the past 2 days  He walks into the bedroom deliberately, gets on the bed and pees on it! How should I react when he does this? Currently if I catch him in the act I say BAD BOY in a deep and loud voice and give him a time out. Is there any particular reason why he is doing this?

Thanks

Sad a.

He will be able to smell his wee on there even though you clean it, so keeps going in the same spot.

I think vinegar gets rid of the smell but I could stand corrected.

I would keep the bedroom doors closed and just keep working on the toilet training and not let him in the bedroom unsupervised until the toilet training is pretty rock solid

Personally, if I caught my dogs doing it I would give them a quick deep growl, then straight outside, to show them this is where you should go !!

Firstly..keep your bedroom door closed..this stops him from doing something 'bad'

Secondly... wash everything with an enzyme based detergent and air well.

Thirdly... back-track on the housetraining routine..you have obviously done ok so far

I agree with BC & persephone.....for cat urine (which is darn strong!) I usually recommend something like BIOZET from the supermarket to clean with and then spray with a product such as Urine-Off.

How old is your puppy? While Zig was quick to toilet train, I didn't give him a chance to make a mistake......outside every 30 mins and after waking, playing or eating. Lots of praise when they toilet and use a command too....set puppy up to succeed  I kept this up for a number of months (obviously left the time longer and longer) as he didn't make much fuss when he needed to go outside....just a little restless and whiny which is no different from usual

Once and only once I arrived home, then a few minutes later caught him lifting his leg in the hallway when he was about 7 months old :) I growled briskly at him, took him straight outside and praised the daylights out of him when he toileted. I looked back at what had gone wrong - it turned out that OH was day dreaming while arranging a piece of music on the computer and completely missed all the signs that Zig had needed to go out for the past 2 hours  He got some training too :)

Good luck!

Thanks everyone! We used vinegar followed by baking soda for the bed and are keeping him out of the bedroom now!! He's also been really good today, has let himself out to pee 4 times!!!!!

Spotted dal, he's just going on 4 months :mad

Yep puppies who aren't totally toilet trained yet shouldn't have unsupervised access to bedrooms.

Try to remember not to scold him too much though even if you do catch him going inside because all he will learn is that peeing in front of humans is dangerous and he'll go off somewhere else indoors to toilet. :mad
