nicestman77
Colin why do you support a cross breeder that breeds Oodles? I support everyone, all breeds/natonalities that is what makes the world exciting as it is now. Cross breeding may or may not make/help things better for the future of the K-9 species. Pure breeding intensifies any faults a pure breed has in it's genes pool, sorry if this goes against your feelings, as I dont like to offend. I can only comment on my experiences. I used to show persian cats many years ago in Canberra, and I experienced the roth of Leukemia traveling through the Blue Persian breed because of a pure inter breeder of the Blue Persians species, believe me there was a lot of upset Blue Persian cat owners that loved their animals, and only the vets won out of it, not because they wanted to win, but when your animal is sick, you have to try to get help, and the vet is your next line choice, but it didn't help anyone, and then simular things happened with the Cavies(dogs) with inter breeding to do with their hips. Then there was the problems Maltese dogs had with their knees, Oh dear! The Dachshunds have spinal problems, and so on. poor little fellers. Longer and lower. I used to own/run a succesfull petgrooming shop in Canberra(Guinevere Petgrooming) we groomed 40 dogs a day for 18 years, and we saw some cruel things with pure breeds, 80% of them had some sort of problem, and they were the ones vets mostly treated compaired to the other mixed breeds dogs. The pure breeds where always going to the vet for something. ;) We were always told to watch their legs/back/his/knees/eyes, and so on. The mixed breed have not proved themselves as yet, it takes time, but for the future of K-9's it has to be tried, right or wrong, only time will tell. So I think this is where our qualified DOL breeders should come-in on the forum with their feed backs, it will be most welcome(good or bad)the most important thing here is our doggies. It would be disappointing to see our loved pets have problems because of the disease (Afluenza) This in the end only makes vets rich. There must be a more qualfied person on DOL that has studdied Genetics whom could put a fresher point of view on this subject.
Becky in Oz
Please, could this discussion be a seperate thread as I would hate to see this one deleted, keeping it about the blade sharpening only.

nicestman77
So, if a clipper blade isnt cutting properly, how do you know if they need sharpening as opposed to buying a new blade?(My friend has a pair and I clip her long hair dog in summer etc... they are Moser Rex clippers) What a rough price for sharpening? You'll find when you slide the top section across(the seperate piece) ,if it has no grip and slides across really smoothly it needs sharpening i think it's still $10 plus post What does it mean if you cant slide the top section at all? I've had a couple come back from sharpening like that or change to be like that within a few clips. If your blades come back from a sharpener, and you can't move the top cutter left or right it means they have over tightened your tension on the blade, the reason they do this is, it is the only way they can at least get the blades to work a bit, a good sharpener knows that if a blade is over tight it will destroy ones clippers in no time. A good sharpener knows the correct tension, Garry at clipperworld knows it, the tension has to be measured using a weight scale, and has to be static measured, if the tension is over tight the blade will overheat very quickly, plus it will roll the sharp edge on the tyne(cutting edge), the blade will get hot, and distort(warp), hence the blade stops working until it cools down, maybe. Now, if the tension is to loose, the fur will get between the top cutter, and bottom plate, and the fur will go fizzy(stop cutting) Anyone can buy a sharpening machine, but it takes 10 years plus to learn all the tricks, hope this helps, I am always available to answer questions, nicestman77. Becky in Oz
I mailed out my clippers to nicest man on Monday and I got them back today- they look brand new again! Thank you! I'll be busy this weekend. Quick question- Is there a recommended time for regular sharpening and/or servicing, like every 10 clippings or something? nicestman77
I mailed out my clippers to nicest man on Monday and I got them back today- they look brand new again!Thank you! I'll be busy this weekend. Quick question- Is there a recommended time for regular sharpening and/or servicing, like every 10 clippings or something? Hi there Becky, sorry for the slow response, I was flat-chat sharpening, below is info to look after your blades. Blade only need sharpening if the blade is cutting dirt, clean coats don't distroy blades, infact the blade get sharper the more they wear in. HOW TO OIL & CARE YOUR CLIPPER BLADES! Thank you for wanting to know how to look after your equipment & blades. Below you will see a picture of a clipper blade, and the areas that is important to oil, where you see the YELLOW dots . only use a small drop of oil as it will end up in the next lot of fur it encounters, rememeber after you oil, let the clipper run for at least 5 seconds before you try to cut again, to let the oil to relocate all over the blade, and the blade to settle in, the main oiling has to oil from behind the tynes, not from the front of them. Also it is important to put a drop of oil onto the tip of the lever that moves the top cutter. If you oil correctly with Singer Sewing Machine Oil ONLY, it will soak into the poures of the metal, and when the blade gets hot, the oil thins & seeps back into play , hence lubricating the moving parts.(keeping things cool) You can buy "Singer Sewing Machine Oil" at any Woolworths for $2.00 for 100 mls. DON'T BUY HANDY OIL! TRY NOT TO USE THE OTHER COOLING AGENTS ON THE MARKET AS THE SINGER SEWING MACHINE OIL WILL DO THE SAME JOB FOR VERY LITTLE MONEY If your blades goes FRIZZY in the coat after you get them back from the sharpener, it means that the tension is to tight, (hot blades) or not tight enough (cold blades), if this is the case email me back, and I will show you how to try to fix it, yourself, the blade maybe sharp, but not set correctly, you yourself can do this with my FREE help, over the net PLUS IT WILL HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT CLIPPER BLADES .
