Ripley
Is there any other way to put a border around a photo other than the Edit Stroke command? I want a more detailed border, with a grungy edge, but don't know how to do it. Googling has only brought up downloads that you pay for. Just wondering if PS has a different way to give a faded border or grunge border look. This is a result on my photo after applying the stroke command in PS, you get a plain, thin border and that's it. Any other way for a more creative look? Or will I have to download a few and pay for them (which I don't mind but I need to know how to then apply them). wagsalot
I use a program called Id framer for all my frames as I found Photoshop too hard. Nat put me onto it and I love it. It cost about $40. I just downloaded the demo, then paid for it and they emailed me a code to put in to give me full access. Its great, I use it all the time. http://www.idimager.com/?page=idframer
Gayle.
There are some default frame actions in Photoshop. Not a lot of variety but you might find what you want. Otherwise have a play with the canvas.....make a canvas bigger than the photo, play with textures, colours, shadows etc, then drag the photo onto it. rubiton
I use paintshop Pro for any sort of border - very quick and easy.
Ripley
Thanks. I found an old camera mag I have that had a CD with some free borders in it. They are jpeg files so I'll just google how to do that and try them out.
Muttaburra
If you google "free photoshop plugins" frames you will find plenty. I have a quick way of doing borders, very lazy. I just use the square "select" tool and make a square roughly inside the width of the border I want then I "Invert Selection" and use the brightness/contrast filter to make it dark. But you could experiment with some of the filters and try emboss, smudge, plastic wrap or charcoal etc.
