Illium For Ear Mites?

Hi Everyone

My beagles have had ear mites once before and for the past week or so, both dogs have had brown muck in their ears. They dont seem to be too bothered by it and arent scratching their ears more than usual. I was recommended Illium ear drops as these are supposed to be for ear mites but so far, for the last few days their ears have only improved a tiny bit since using it. I guess I am going to have to take them to the Vet now. Levi was only there a week ago though for an unrelated matter and I was surprised th Vet didnt check his ears when he was there then .. but anyway.

Does anyone know if Illium works on ear mites (as the bottle says it does) it also says it helps with bacterial and fungal infections so I thought it may actually do something to help them. Their ears dont seem to smell at all, they just have a lot of brown muck in them

Thanks for reading

Try giving your dog a treatment of Advocate aswell, as it kills earmites. Just be aware its a heartworm treatment aswell, so don't use it aswell as your normal treatment.

With the Illium drops, I would advise getting some Oticlean and thoroughly cleaning the ear canal. Do this by squirting the Oticlean in, then massage ear canal and wipe clean with cotton wool. Them apply the drops (4-8) twice a day.

Goodluck

Thanks for your reponse. Do you know where I can get Oticlean from? Do you think I should try this first and see if it clears up or should I just take them to the Vet?

Also - any clues on how to tell if it is definitely ear mites? I am assuming it is as the discharge in both dogs ears is reddish brown and I remember this from when they had it 18 months ago. If it isnt ear mites, how can I tell?

Thanks

Probably better to go to the vets, they will have a look at the gunk under a microscope and see if it is in fact ear mites. Or you could do this yourself, if you have the equipment. You will see them crawling around.

Oticlean you should be able to get from a pet supply place.

Advocate is probably the most effective way to rid your dog of the mites though.
