I'm just about to apply for a job at Wollongong.

Never been there but it sounds like there are lots of doggy training things to do?

There is no agility here but there is some at Dapto?

If I get the job my next worry is a rented house that allows 2 small dogs and an ancient cat. Any suggestions about this? ( Besides "good luck!"). I don't really even know the suburbs.

Would be nice to meet some other dog minded people if I do get there.

We only moved here 12 months ago and are renting as well.Training is great and theres some lovely off leash beaches and parks around

Well you shouldn't have too many troubles with 2 smaller dogs. Unfortunatley it is getting harder for people with larger breeds hence why i am holding back a little about another dog. Wollongong is expensive and backyards are smaller, you need to look for suburbs just out of it like figtree, unanderram cordex heights, even dapto (very cheap), or north a bit to say corrimal, woonona, fairy meadow. For a 3 bedroom house in these areas your looking around $300- $360 average.

there is dog training at JJ kelly park or even better dapto showground. We have off the leash dog areas in figtree, bulli and coniston/ port beach.

I enjoy nothing better than a walk along north gong bike track with my girl then a quick swin in the harbour, she loves it !!

I reckon a dog meet would be great, we have the paws walking coming up to don't forget. It would be good I reckon to meet at say the bistro at city beach function centre at south beach then we could walk along the beach to cono and let the dogs run free.

Hi Skip, good luck with the job. We moved to Wollongong 20 years ago from the Northern Beaches of Sydney - mainly for our dogs!!! we live in Woonona, which is about 20 minutes drive North of the Gong.

I think it's still possible to rent with pets - I know my sister was renting in an old house in West Wollongong/Coniston that allowed pets, so there are still places around.

We tend to entertain people mostly down the beach - I think people just look at us and laugh... they're probably thinking, pretty dog, but geeez it's a lunatic!

Picture: Woman walking wild 30kilo puppy, who gets so excited that she's down the beach and spots all potential new 'friends' - thus has to 'woof' occasionally to a/ let the world know she's here, and b/ say hi to her new 'friends', this is in between doing zoomy laps around Mum's legs in excitement....

Whilst trying to maintain some level of decorum, one can't help but start laughing at her she's just a tad exhuberant...

In two and a half weeks we will be picking up our black labrador puppy. (unnamed at this stage, but thinking it will be Leila meaning dark beauty) I'm very excited. Once she settles in and has had her vaccinations, I'd love to meet up with some of you.

Most of our friends are having babies, not getting puppies! So we will be looking for some dog company for the socialisation of our pup!

I'll also be looking into joining one of the training groups you have all been discussing.

Will post some pictures when we get our little one.

While being from the Hawkesbury originally I am in the Central West now. It is so cheap here even if slow on agility side. But I have been at my last job for nearly 5 years and don't really like it.

I am by myself so need more like a crappy as possible 2 B/R place as long as it has a good fence. I don't mind a little distance but was more worried that like Brisbane I'd have to live 2 hours away to be able to afford a house to rent.

I have a friend Kristy Merryvale who works at Raine and Horne in Residential, lovely girl, she's always been a great help, I told her exactly what I wanted (house i can have a dog) and she was great discussing my love of animals with the owners and convinced my owners to change their mind about no animals

The hospital is about 5 mins,if that, from me and I'm at Cordeaux Heights

WE were lucky that the owner of this house is pretty layed back.The previous tennant owned a labradore and it lived inside and the real estate knew that.It must have as there wern't any side gates(we put up mesh)My dogs come inside but they must go into there crates though

It was hard finding a house that had 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms as we have 3 kids,let alone one that allowed dogs.Seeing you don't have that problems hopefully you'll find something a bit easier

Hi All I'm also from the gong, Warilla to be exact. We live quite close to the beach so my pooches have a great backyard to play in.

I've attached some pics.

I've just started getting them into sled dog racing with our first competitive event on Sat. So if you see someone being towed along the beach that'll be me.

Should be lots of fun as long as they don't run me ito the bushes I'll be happy.

Well, we got to meet Julie on Saturday!

Jemima lived up to all lunatic expectations. After the first 40 minutes of having to be good and quiet and sit around waiting, she decided she'd had enough, and it was playtime.

We then all had to get up and attempt 'heel'. Everyone else attempted this just fine. Jemima was having none of it at all, and decided laps in figure 8 zoomies around me on the leash was more what was needed. She just totally lost it!! aaah dear.

Then sadly, I took her up to my horse this morning to let her have some fun, and she was in the shed playing with the other two dogs up there when I heard the most awful squealing yelping, which could only be coming from one source, my baby.... and it was...

One of the dogs up there is a massive ridgeback mastiff cross, and he had torn his cruciate ligament a couple of years ago, been operated on, then tore it again, so now he's living up there as it's nice and flat for him to amble around.

Jemima was holding her back leg uncannily like his..and hobbling in the same fashion...

Straight down to our vet and she doesn't think at this stage it's torn - and looks more lateral than cruciate, so I have to keep her QUIET. Hmmmm..so we have some ACP pills to enable that, along with some painkillers.

Fingers crossed it's nothing serious - so no more obedience just yet. Nor showing...maybe never?

That's no good.

My Fiance and I have both torn the cruciate ligament in our left knees playing Oztag. It's not nice.

I used to have horses, however sold my last one about 3 years ago

She fights them every step of the way.

The instructions say to give them 1/2 hour before you want them to be sedated.

1 and a half hours later, she's there barking at my handbag - I swear she's having a bad trip and hallucinating

So no more drugs for her.

However, on the bright side, she is moving normally - no hobble, no lameness - so I am thinking that if there was a tear this would not be possible, so maybe just a strain. Can't feel any residual swelling either.... roll on Friday for the next vet visit!

I took her to the beach this morning to let off some energy...

I swear she was so out of control with excitement that people must have been just looking at me shaking their heads...
