Poppy's mum
I have been using the Megaderm sachets on Chelsea for a couple of months and while her coat looks good, I am not sure if they are having a lot of impact on the itch. She has Malassezia, BTW and also has frequent Malaseb baths. Info on malssezia: http://www.westiemed.org/health/malassezia/ I notice I am down to one bath a week to keep her outbreaks of crusty pustules at bay so maybe it's having some effect. Has anyone had success with this using it medium to long term? I still have another month's supply so I will keep it up. Maybe I am just kidding myself clutching at straws? 4 Paws
what are you feeding her on? I have a client in Sydney who owns 2 westies who had constant itchy skin and after changing to Nutro Lamb and Rice the itching has cleared and they are very happy with the results. I'm sure the megaderm would be helping and would try and continue with some kind of omega oils till you get the malassezia under controll Good luck with everything
Poppy's mum
Thanks for the encouragement. She is on a bland chicken and rice diet suggested by the vet and some 'sensitive skin' biscuits. She's a gannet and will eat anything so am happy to try her on different biscuits etc was thinking of trying the holistic natural balance ones next (can't remember the name). Winterpaws
Big Henry had that as well and we did get on top of it but not as well as we would have liked There is a thread about some EPO supplements and shampoos here - http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=123683 Might be worth looking into as well or even chatting with Westiemum? puggy_puggy
Does Prednil help at all? I will give my pug boy 2 tablets just for one day every month or so to keep his itchies under control. Having tried everyting else, elimination diet etc the vet and I descided that the Prednil in such small dosage every now and again was not going to harm him. Prednil is a tablet that is half cortisone/prednisone half antihistamine. What about trying to take Chelsea to the beach and having her submursed in the salt water once a week? Maybe Phisohex would help? (Human acne face wash you can buy at the chemist. I use this to wash crusty nose rolls, yucky ears and any rashes that appear in groins of the pugs) What about Curash (the baby powder) that contains zinc? Panalog is an ointment from the vets that I use if my pug boy gets any crusty outbreaks in his groin. Someone mentioned Evening Primrose Oil in a shampoo and as suplements being good for problem skin.
chuckie500
I feed mine barf patties and eaglepack fish formula. I give them some megaderm about three times a week. I have it in a plastic bottle (not sachets) and it last ages. one of mine has the itches occassionally now only. i think the megaderm helps a bit, but i also watch his diet. i would cehck the ingredients on the biscuits you use they. i general avoid treats/biuscuits that have wheat or corn in them. Not completely scientific but it seems to work with mine.
Poppy's mum
Thanks for all the suggestions. Will try the nutro lamb and rice for a change... I am lucky that her conditions is not severe otherwise I would try the prednil for occassional relief. I have heard the rdio vet mention curash. Thanks guys.
