This is from Bea

Hi Bec,

Thanks for the update.

I've heard of Gribbles Pathology (only recently). VetPath have been doing

CDV/CPV antibody testing for several years. IDEXX used to run these tests in

Brisbane, however, they only reported on positive or negative response. I am

aware of 1 incident when the result from IDEXX was negative and on re-testing

through VetPath, immunity was present. IDEXX, I understand, have discontinued

this service in Brisbane now because of inaccuracy in their assay and results.

I'm always a bit suss when the vaccine company offers to pay for vet costs. They

are less likely to fully report to the owner than an independent lab.

Noah, no doubt, lives in the Sydney area (?) and if the vet cannot arrange to

have the titre testing done at VetPath, you might like to suggest to the owner

to make an appointment with Barbara Fougers at All Natural Vet Care, Russell Lea

(contact phone No. in the Newsletter). She has all titre tests done at VetPath

in WA.

As for vaccine selection, the owner may not have a choice as her vet is likely

to only offer one brand (Nobivac). BEWARE though, there are some killed

(combination) vaccines around for CPV which should not be administered after an

attenuated (modified-live vaccine). BE AWARE also that one C3 product (Protech)

is now mixed/reconstituted with another vaccine (corona/lepto) 'by default', it

would appear from vaccination certificates I have seen over the last year or so.

Good luck

Bea

Thanks DC.

My vet spoke to IDEXX who still do it but they only do it once a month and send it off to the US, so it takes four weeks! I'm still a bit confused why the fax appears to come from both Vetpath AND Gribbles....not sure how it's done.

We're in Melbourne btw.

We're getting the test re-done at my normal vet at my cost on Sunday, which will be two weeks after his vacc. I'll let you know the result.

Good tip about the vacc brands...I'll speak to my vet about that!

Thanks again

  • 2 weeks later...

I have results now

Noah got > 1:80 so all is fine and he just took longer than Nobivac expected to have a response.

So really, that is a warning also to people to NOT think your puppy is safe after a vacc only 7 days after.....Noah took the full two weeks :D
