Thanks Shek. I'm really hoping its not osteosarcoma but I can't think of anything else it could be. I would like to give Akira at least a short time living in a home where she is loved and cared for.

Sorry to barge in on the palliative thread like this but you guys know this disease and rottweilers - I couldn't think of anywhere better to go to get some advice and possibly reassurance until the vet gets to see Akira

oops!! sorry about previous post :)

Kaz -- hope you have managed to get to a vet to find out just what is wrong with your rescue rott. Those who reply to you on this thread are trying to give you the assistance you require but a qualified vet is what you need. Understand you are worried but sooner you get experienced advise the better for both of you.. Good luck!!!!

thought perhaps you could give me some indication of what is going on with my new foster rottie. I got her out of the pound Saturday. She has a big hard lump on the outside of her thigh around three or four inches in diameter. She is limping pretty badly because of it.

I will be phoning the vet tomorrow to see whether he wants me to bring her in straight away. (She has kennel cough and hasn't yet done her quarantine for parvo)

Kaz

You do realise this thread is Palliative care only. While am sympathetic to your plight you should be using the general Rottie thread re this matter at the moment

thanks for your consideration Kaz - the general Rottie thread has many owners/breeders who are all willing to offer help. In your situation I would not think there was quick advise, straight to the vet would be the obvious thing to do. On that note I hope she is being looked after and all is well with you and your pets. Good luck!

Hope all unwell furry friends and their owners are well today!

Thank you for all the support guys but honestly if Ming has a problem with me I would prefer to handle this in a pm - or I am quite happy to slug it out on the general rottweiler thread.

Thankyou for your input, Cavnrott, as in the past, I am dependent on your experience and knowledge in all things rottie.

Please let us know how Soph has been the last couple of days, Anne

Anne, how is Sophie? Didn't she go to the oncologist recently? You have not posted for a while about her, am a bit worried that she is okay. Sorry if I seem pushy but would really like to know.

Hi CavNrott,

just popping in to see how your beautiful girl Sophie is doing. I see from your last post you say she is doing ok, that is good to hear. I dont comment here very often but you and Sophie as with all the sick dogs and their owners are always in my thoughts.

I have told several people I know about you and Sophie and the marvellous partnership you both have, even my own vets who by the way wish there were so many more owners that are pro-active about their dogs care and treatment as you are.

Take care.

Thank you Chell for those lovely comments. Sophie is such a gentle, trusting girl who copes with all the tests she needs with her usual good grace and happy smile. The onco's are pleased with her and they often comment on the relationship Sophie and I share. Sophie's a special girl.

Flava and Shek: Thanks for your concern. Sophie's doing well. Her FBE test was good and her levels are within normal range now. She's still the miracle girl who's astounding the onco's with her current good state of health and reasonably stable condition, considering her circumstances.

The palliative care thread is of great value to those of us with terminally ill dogs. Caring for a loved and dying dog is a hard, heartbreaking road to travel. This thread is a place of great comfort when stark reality hits, as it often does. I come in here and read the posts of encouragement from folk who wish us well and it gives my spirits a lift. Your well wishes for Sophie are greatly appreciated.

Such great news about Sophie CnR. I am so glad that she is doing so well, for both of you.

She sounds just like Ollie - one minute you think they are so sick and the next they are getting test results that say that everything is within a normal range. It is such a great feeling.

I had the lad out to the park on Sunday (he does not go off lead, as he is not that friendly to other dogs) but I would have loved to let him off, so he could have really run through the fallen leaves - he was having such a good time. I posted some pics in the photo section, he looks amazing at the moment. Even his cruciate ligament does not seem to bother him much anymore.

Hoping that they both continue to do so well.

Jodie

I'm a bit worried about Sophie tonight. She doesn't seem to be her normal self. Maybe she's tired, we had a run in the park today...she seems very quiet.

Her mouth tumour has been bleeding today. Still she happily ate her dinner without effort. I'll take her up to sleep on my bed with the electric blanket on and see how she goes overnight.

I hope Sophie is feeling better tonight Anne :D Jaida would be much more quiet during the evening and night if we had taken her out during that day...as much as she loved going out and about it really wore her out.

Sleeping with an electric blanket...very nice! Even I can't sleep with one of those anymore :)
