rocshani
I'm looking at a new joint product for my 2 oldies,12 &14.Have looked at both joint guard and sasha's blend, does anyone use either and have any advice ? Or maybe another product out their.A while back used missing link joint formula, they did'nt really go for something on their food,so was looking at the bites of the above. Thanks
kayla1
My girl started off using Glyde with good results, but it is very expensive. I tried a couple of other products which were cheaper, Technyflex and then Joint Guard, but she got worse with these. She's back on the Glyde at the moment, again with very good results. Haven't tried Sasha's Blend though.
kamuzz
My dog is a bit of a fussy eater and joint guard seems to have no taste / smell so he will eat it.
~Archie~
We have our dogs on Joint Guard and its amazing! The vet explained to us how Joint Guard & Sasha's Blend differed, I cant recall exactly what he said, but basically Joint Guard is purified Glucosamine & Chondroitin which change the joint, where as Sasha's Blend is a raw product with shark cartlidge and it doesnt work as well as the purified products. Joint Guard also has MSM which is a natural anti inflammatory
MTD
I use Joint guard for Maggie ( HD ) and it has helped her greatly Sasha's blend has a very strong smell/taste ( i presume )
cavNrott
I use Joint Guard with success. Shasha's Blend did nothing for my oldies. Kayla can you tell us more about Glyde please. I've never heard of it.
westiemum
My vet recommended Joint Guard for my old boy with an ACL repair, arthritis and generally wearing joints - and its been fabulous - he bounces around like a puppy on it and appears to be pain free. If I remember rightly it has something in it that makes it particularly digestible for dogs and is odourless so putting the right dose on their food is a breeze. Takes about 6 weeks for the full therapeutic effect to kick in (thats normal with all sorts of joint products BTW). I haven't used Sacha's Blend but I have heard it doesn't work as well. The cheapest source of Jointguard with the best service I've found is here - watch out as prices vary wildly. They can also get the Jointguard treats in for you too (its where I buy mine from). Hope that helps. Cheers, Westiemum

I've never heard of it. It's called Glyde Oral Powder for dogs - contains chondroitin, glucosamine, and green lipped mussel. My vet recommended it over Sasha's Blend, though I haven't tried Sasha's Blend so can't compare them. It's a relatively new product, released last year I think. The only place I can get it is from the vet, I've tried online but can't find any other stockists. My girl Kayla has had good results with it, but the downside is that it is very expensive - I paid $95 for 360g!! I tried Joint Guard after reading the positive feedback on here, but it didn't work for Kayla unfortunately.

I can only get it from my vet unfortunately, I've tried pet supplies and online with no luck. Though if anyone knows of a cheaper supplier I would be very interested!! westiemum
You could try Trent here - he's been able to get in special request stuff for me at excellent prices - can't guarantee it but it might be worth an email. westiemum
No probs Kayla1 - at least we know not to go chasing around other suppliers after it - vets it is. I'm a big Jointguard fan - my old boy does really well on it - but I am curious to know why the Glyde powder might work for your girl?? Must be the green-lipped mussel as well as the Chondrotin and Glucosamine?? Or does the green-lipped mussel somehow enhance the effect of the C and G? Did your vet say why she/he recommended it in particular for your girl?? Cheers Westiemum

We discussed Glyde versus Sasha's Blend, and the vet believed the ingredients in Glyde to be more effective compared to Sasha's. But we didn't discuss how the ingredients interact, and whether one ingredient enhances the effect of the others for example. My plan was to try the Glyde and then perhaps look for a cheaper alternative, but then I discovered that Glyde works for Kayla and some other products don't. So now I'm actually wondering the same thing - what is it about Glyde that works for Kayla. Another question for the vet next time I'm there! ~Archie~
From what my vet told me, MSM has the same sort of action as the Green Lipped Mussel, its a natural anti inflammatory. Without the hideous smell! $95 for 360g for Glyde!! Wow that's seriously expensive!!
rocshani
Thanks for all the information everyone, looks like i'll give Joint Guard a go.My 2 have been on glucosamine tablets for years but don't seem to be doing as well as they used to.Does anyone know should they still do the higher inital level even though they have been on glucosamine ? Mystiqview
Actually it is funny.. THe specialist at West Chermside here in Brisbane recommended going to the chemist and getting human "glucossamine" products. Said it is cheapest and is exactly the same. Said to third the dose for human to dog

THe specialist at West Chermside here in Brisbane recommended going to the chemist and getting human "glucossamine" products. Said it is cheapest and is exactly the same. Said to third the dose for human to dog That is what I do. We have a nearly 14 year old lab who suffers from arthritis. She has acute pain episodes at times which requires pain relief also. Has anyone simply added Mussel extact tablets from the chemist. I do not begrudge spending money at my vets, as their mark ups are not that huge (and lets face it animal medications are not covered by government subsidizes), all the same, a few dollars extra in our pockets sometimes helps. They are supposed to be natural products, I am home testing how my girl gets on. Thought are welcomed. Glad I found this thread. Glyde was only passed mid last year for dog use. $90.00 or more?? By crickey. I will contact my trusted vet next week also for his views as I need another check visit.

Lablover
After posting my thread I remembered human studies on the use of Glucosamine Chondroitin. The usual - half adults given the supplement, half placebo. From my (poor) memory very few change of symptoms were achieved. I continue to supplement regardless as I feel no harm is occurring and maybe?? with canines there are better results??? We can only observe and know our own dogs. Trying to keep the old girl slim, including exercise. She greatly enjoys swimming. Glucosamine Sulfate is preferred over Glucosamine HCl etc etc. Good for growing dogs. My solo home study with Green Gipped mussel is continuing. How is everyone else progressing?
