I think he's just having fun. Is Jack on a lead? If so, you can simply give him a little tug to correct the problem. If not, put him on lead and correct him.

Have fun

yeah only happens when we put him on his harness and lead to walk him...we tried pushing him away using the lead...bt he jst keeps trying...will he grow out of it?

You need to stop him doing it now or it will get worse. What I suggest is:

Everytime he does it, push him away with the lead and stop moving.

When he stops, start walking again.

Repeat endlessly until you could scream  (screaming is optional).

You have to show him that you won't take him anywhere if he misbehaves. At 7 months he is old enough for discipline.

I'm not sure about the harness. I don't know what sort of control they give you for correction. I use a martingale collar - a limited slip choker - which works really well for correcting bad behaviour.

Good luck

thanks for the advice bt we have tried tht and it still doesnt work....i have also realised tht when he doesnt get his way (ie i dont let him off the lead coz theres too many lil kids about) he does tht jumping and biting behaviour...and btw my jack pup had a tantrum problem...everytime u pick him up whilst he is playing with another dog or greeting some1 he will chuck a trantum and try to bite us...

Both are related... you have a very assertive pup that needs discipline! I am sure you are probably giving in to his assertiveness....

When you pick him up and the throws his tantrum, what do you do? Give in and put him down, or maintain control until he gives in to you? And I mean till he TOTALY gives in and displays calm relaxed body language?

On lead - Assertive body language, jumping up and biting is wanting to control. Your dog is probably frustrated because he can't understand why he can't go where he wants. He is seeking control. Condition your dog to understand you never give in to him..NEVER

Have you done loose lead training with him?

thanks for the reply mark....yeah he is a very assertive pup for sure...both my sis and my mum give in to his behaviour bt i dont...when he throws a tantrum at me i hold him till he gives in and when hes calm i put him down...hes trantum behaviour is improving slowly...bt the jumping and biting on clothing hasnt improved at all...mind my ignorance but may i ask u wat loose lead training is?

It doesn't sound as though you are exhibiting the calm assertion that your dog needs, but what advice/instruction on 'what to do' have you been given by both your private instructor and the group session instructor?

A harness isn't likely to help you with the control you need at the moment.

i jst dont think its right to use physical punishment....i want to be able to control him with the tone of my voice.....well i was told i needed to show him i was the pack leader...and i was also told to use a choke chain (which i think would be painful esp with my pup as for hes only 5kgs) thanks for the help so far.....

The thing is the things you are using/doing, aren't working. This means you need to change things. Did the instructors (private and group) show you what to do and demonstrate the results? What did they show and explain to you and what alternatives when you said you don't wish to use a check chain?

I'm not suggesting you must or need to use a check chain on your dog to achieve what you require, but remember that it's not that the check chain is "on" that makes any difference to the dog one way or the other, it's how you use it. Intensity of correction is always a variable thing, depending on the dog and circumstances. You say you've tried a martingale with no luck. Were you shown how to apply it properly but effectively?

We need to know here what you do do in your training and everyday interactions with your dog, as well as what your expectations are. At the moment, it sounds as though your all of 5kg dog is lording it over you.

Have you looked into training your dog in drive? Sure, he's only 5kg and therefore small, but dogs are still dogs no matter the size. Of course, it does depend on what drive your dog has been genetically bestowed. :mad
