Guest Tess32
I think I posted this ages ago but there is a new accompanying website so it's a really good thing for people who are beginning to train. These are "Training Levels" designed by trainer Sue Ailsby. You can easily follow the levels so that you have less chance of lumping everything together etc and sometimes people don't know where to begin. http://www.dragonflyllama.com/%20DOGS/%20Dog1/levels.html And if you're into recording everything like I am, there is a website that lets you record or keep a training journal in relation to the levels as well as being able to print off forms etc. http://levels.nybble.net/

Guest Piximatosis
Fantastic, thanks Tess! Have just printed the whole thing out I've been focusing mainly on Finta's socialisation and showing stuff so far... so she knows "sit" and has a very elementary grasp on "drop". Plus general around-the-house behaviours such as sitting and waiting to be let out of the run. That's inspiring though - time to get more serious with it all I think ;)
Guest Tess32
Glad everyone likes it. I did it with Reilly and the fact that it forces you to set proper goals etc really makes you feel it is all achievable I printed it all out and had my little training sheets printed out, but with the new site online I don't have to this time! Noah is just about to complete level one - as soon as he stops trying to devour my whole hand when I teach him target ;) Also there is a yahoo group with everyone who is doing the training levels where you can ask Sue your questions. WinGus
Wow! That looks great! Will have to print that out and read through it. I'm having trouble with training at the moment in that I can't get Pepper to do things willingly. I always have to lure her or worse, bribe her before she will do anything. I think I'm the one that needs training more than her. Probably doing everything wrong!
JulesP
WinGus increase the amount of time between the marker/clicker and the treat. So sit, yes, wait 1 sec, reward. Slowly build the time up. If you ask her to sit and puppy doesn't, don't then get a treat out. Either walk away and try again or physically put her in the sit.

Are you sure she actually knows the verbal command? If you're luring, she might just be paying attention to your body language.
