Daisy
Hazel is a cross breed rescue that I have had for about 3 years. She was about 2 years old when I got her, and was desexed. We have a rather strange problem with her. All my dogs are toilet trained and sleep inside during the night, but Hazel often has an 'accident'. I don't mind cleaning up when she does it on the floor, but often she actually wees on her bed. When she was sleeping on a trampoline bed she didn't wee on that, but now she also has a padded mat and that is what she wees on, and it is a pain washing it all the time. She also sometimes wees on the lounge so I have been putting things on it so she can't get up there any more. I don't think she has an incontinence problem, she can be inside wih me when I am home for very long periods and never has an accident or want to go out, she only does this overnight. Does anyone have any ideas why she would do this and how I can get her to stop? Edited January 13, 2008 by Daisy
dlmckay
Sounds as if she's going into such a deep sleep, she's relaxing entirely and losing bladder control. Perhaps the trampoline mattress wasn't as comfortable If she were my dog, I'd put her somewhere easy to clean at night and arrange a vet appointment to discuss the incontinence. Her Majesty Dogmad
I had this with one of my girls, it's female incontinence. They do it when asleep usually. Mine did it in the car and on her bed and it was straight off to the vets. She was put on Stilboestrel about 18 months ago and no probs since. Just had to increase the dosage when it started again and soon stopped.

Chloes Dad
I have bitches who wee on their beds.....and I have caught them in the act so its not incontinence!I dont know why they do it.......but they do! when you go to boarding kennels that is where they all wee. i guess it is the closest thing to grass when the alternative is concrete. also if you wash the bed use bio zet or vinegar. this breaks down the enzyme and they wont smell the urine. if the bed smells like wee then it is a toilet to a dog and they have great noses. maybe start to set an alarm and give her a toilet break in the middle of the night until the habit is broken. Daisy
Always wash in bio zet or vinegar As for setting an alarm in the middle of the night.... I need my sleep, suffer from anxiety and sometimes migraines so the last thing I need is more broken sleep

Lablover
Is she actually asleep when she wees?
Daisy
Don't know, I never catch her in the act. Put it this way, I have never seen her wee when she is asleep, even during the evening before I go to bed.
