indi_dog
Indi was out running with sheepies today, and I noticed she was limping tonight. I had a look around her feet, and between her toes (on the top of the foot) I can see a small thorn/stick stuck in there. It seems reasonably deep, I can't even budge the damn thing with tweezers. So until our vet trip tomorrow, is there anything else I can try to get the thing out? I can grip it with my fingernails but it just won't budge. I'll give it a wash in the meantime, see if that flushes the thing out.
Toohey
I'd soak the foot in warm salty water and see if that softens the skin and helps to shift it.
curlyking
Probably too late for you now. Years ago when we had a real problem with grass seeds the vet told us to make up a very strong solution of sugar in water and soak some cotton woll in it then apply that as a poultice and bandage it with plastic and gauze for as long as possible - overnight is great. Every time the seed was drawn out if not totally enough to get a grip and remove it. The best effort we had was one drawn from the hock to the original entry point between the toes. indi_dog
The vet pulled it out in half a second felt like a giant idiot, I guess I don't have the knack!!! But in my defense it was a big bugger of a thorn!! Thanks curlyking, I'm sure this won't be the last thorn/seed to get stuck in there so I'll try that next time.
