Duck Mince?

I have just bought Duck barf mix for the adult dogs, this has a mix of Duck, Duck frames etc so I wont cook it because of the bones mixed into it. I have done a little reading online and it seems Chicken, Duck and Goose carry the same bacteria. So I might continue to feed my babies lean mince and soaked quality dry.

Hi Jordajake :coffee:

Are you talking about the babies or your adult dogs? Would lean mince be too lean to feed a puppy? I'm going to start Gus on raw meat on Monday (having given him sufficient time to recover from his illness.... caused by raw chicken mince) and thought I should get puppy mince because of the fat content. What are you thoughts?

Any food that is minced has a greater chance of becoming bacteria infected because of the greater surface area.

It is one of the reasons why even human mince you are told to consume within 24 hours or freeze.

Contaminants are greater because of the mincing machine that it would go through as well as those in the air prior to going on sale.

Think about it.

Sausages and patties are in the same boat as well.

Freeze it and thaw prior to feeding is the best option for any minced product.

Exactly. Given the pup has already been sick from chicken mince, would it be unwise to recommend chicken necks? That's what I would try. I don't see the need to mince anything except vegetables, so my dog gets bones, meat and offal whole.

Raw meat would have to be "off" to make a dog sick. Dogs are meant to eat raw food, they are designed to eat it, bacteria is normal for a dog to process, unlike humans who have an entirely different digestive system.

Unless something has changed ,Australian Chickens are not allowed to be given hormones ( I know someone has mentioned this on the thread, but I dont think it is possible), I know other Countries where hormones were used or are being used it can cause fertility problems in their bitches etc..........

I cant see why Duck meat is different to chooks.......

I feed the duck barf regularly and have never had any problems with it. My dogs love it, but then they love all food!!

Have you fed puppies with the Duck Barf. I am more than happy to feed my adult dogs Duck, I was more concerned on feeding to the puppies.
