toofarnorth
My niece came to me this morning and said that Gemma was eating something that looked like a bone in the garden, and to my horror she than bought in what was left, a piece of cooked bone that was about 3 inches long. She didnt get it from us, but I have a couple of Uni students living next door so mayye they threw it over the fence. So naturally i am very concerned and am watching her for signs of discomfort...is this really all i can do at this stage? My car has broken down at the moment, and the mechanic is coming to fit a part this morning, so i cant get to the vet quickly until at least lunch. She is 12 years old, a lab x....thanks. BrunoBella
Cooked bones are dangerous as they can get sharp pieces and cut the dog. Check the mouth and throat for obvious injuries. I'm not sure if they can cut going through the gut. If they did you would notice cause the dog would get very sick very quickly. My two got cooked bones from the neighbour as well. No harm done with them. I just kept an eye on them and educated the neighbours about the dangers of cooked bones. He has now bought dog treats to give the dogs instead of bones . Hope all goes well BP
t-time
Yep, you're doing the right thing - don't freak out but keep an eye on your dog particularly over the next few hours. You are looking for signs of pain and/or blood in the stool. (Poop may look black which is a sign of blood as well). Doggy should be ok though - these things happen! I would be having a stern talk to the neighbours
toofarnorth
Thankyou both, Ive checked her mouth and cant see any damage, but will make sure to keep a good eye on her and her poops. Fingers crossed that this passes through her with no complications.
