Guest Tess32
I think it was ok, but it's so dark I can't see outside, I have awful night vision. I'll have to get my mum to check it out later, and we don't have a torch!
Staff'n'Toller
I fed Geords chicken necks a few days after he got here and all it did was make him puke giblets. I would agree, stick to the optimum & weetbix and leave it for a while....plenty of time to introduce the other stuff. Optimum is not the best out there, but it's not terrible. Mel. WreckitWhippet
Chuck the weekbix out the window or eat it yourself for breakfast and just swap it for some dry of a morning, until you are ready to start BARF with him. It has been said that weetbix has no nutritional value and that is correct, it means that he is missing out on essential vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, every meal that he has of it. JulesP
Jolly good! The BARF equivalant of weetbix is rolled oats. I used to add some mince to it.
Marble
I have a similar problem with my puppy and need advice I have just taken home a maltese puppy 8wks old. (on Sat) Weighing just 1kg. The breeder was feeding her raw meat. I changed her diet to puppy eukanuba. I had to soften it with water because not all her puppy teeth has grown and she cannot chew. I add cooked chicken to the euk so it is a little more tastier for her. For the first few days, she was not really interested in the euk, but gradually eats to her required daily intake (as long as there is cooked chicken in it) Sat - Tues: her poop was fine. normal and doing 2 shits a day. With the same diet Wed: Same diet. My first day back to work. So she is alone. (i was aware she might be in shock, so a fews days before wed, i had left home for fews hrs then come home. Every time i left the house it was for a little longer period. Hoping she will get used to the idea and i will eventually come home to her) anyways.. i came home after work with a diarrhea puppy. Her stool is like chocolate pudding (sorry for the description). I had changed no diet on wednesday. Only diff is me working and she is home for longer hrs. She is also teething. Her front puppy teeth is starting to protude. Thurs: Changed her diet. (from soaked euk + cooked chicken meat to soaked euk + dash of chicken broth). She is still diarrhea. Same choco pudd like. :D Ohh.. she is still the same temperment.. loving to bite my fingers, toes and shoes.. She is drinking more water which is cos of the diarrhea. She is still eating and cleans her bowl. Fri: This morning, she still has diarrhea. I am worried about her being dehydrated. So i pressed her gums last night and it goes from white to pink. When do i seriously start panicking and take her to the vet? i am assuming she is diarrhea either cos she is teething her puppy teeth or cos of the change of me working now sorry for the long winded story.. thought every little helps to identify what is wrong with her
unconditionallove
Hi Marble, I'm sure someone will come along with great advice in no time. I have always prefered to air on the side of caution with my animals, i think if i were in your position I'd be off to visit your vet. You will feel much more confident and relaxed about the whole thing. hope all goes well for you both.
poodlefan
Marble how old is your puppy? Has she been vaccinated and regularly wormed? Where did you get her? If her gums are white without pressure, I'd be making a beeline for the vet. She CAN chew. Many pups are weaned straight onto food like chicken necks. If she hasn't been to the vet for a check up, it's probably time to do that and she should have a vaccination shot due soon too. Is she's healthy, the most likely source of her runs is you constantly changing her diet. New foods should be introduced slowly over time.

Is she's healthy, the most likely source of her runs is you constantly changing her diet. New foods should be introduced slowly over time. Hi there the puppy is 8weeks old. She has been vaccinate with a C3 and due for a C5 when she is 10-12weeks. She is also on worming too. Her gums are pink when just looking at them. When i press her gums they turn white, then back to pink when i let go. She cannot CHEW... when i took her home when she was 8 weeks old. Her puppy teeth has not fully grown. The bottom front was not even showing yet and on the sides some of the teeth were only just showing and others fully grown. I tried fed her puppy eukanuba (dried - not soaked) and she tried to eat it but could not chew. She could only lick it into her mouth and roll it around then spat it back out. Once i soaked it, she then could lick it into her mouth. Her diet has been from raw meat from the breeder. When i took her home i fed her euk + boiled chicken mixed. Then changed her diet to euk + chicken broth mix on Thursday night. But she was already diarrheaing on wed day time while i was not home
JulesP
Marble I am slightly concerned that the puppy isn't as old as 8 weeks. Did you get puppy from a registered breeder? I would put puppy back on the diet that the breeder was feeding. And very slowly add the dry in, as in a couple of bits a day for that size puppy. If the puppy looks even slightly quiet go straight to the vet. If you are in QLD go to the vet straight away as there is a nasty virus going around up there. poodlefan
Marble, it's time for the vet. Gums turning white when you press them is normal. However an 8 week old pup should have a full set of teeth. I've got a sneaking suspicion the pup you've bought is far younger than you were told. Where did you get her? An all meat diet is the fastest path to rickets and calcium deficiency I can think of. Time for a check up. I got it from a registered breeder and the vet card showed 8weeks. I am in sydney. I wonder it might be the boiled chicken that might not be fresh and she is sensitive to it. From the 1st day i got her home (sat - tuesday) she was fine with soaked euk and her shits were normal. Only Wednesday she starting diarrhea
unconditionallove
Hi Marble, Lot's of good advice. Poodlefan is right, your puppy should have all her teeth and be able to chew. I am fostering two 8 week old Maltese x puppies, and they are able to eat chicken necks etc, no problem at all. Puppies can go downhill quickly, esspecially if dehydration occurs. I would make an appointment with your vet today, so your pup can have a good checkup. It's probably as simple as a consultation. Don't be affraid to ask all the questions you like, good luck with everything.

Joypod
Just watch her. If she's lethargic then get her straight to the vet. I had a puppy with gastro a week ago that was fine in the morning and in hospital that night on a drip because he got dehydrated so quickly. It can happen really fast. Just keep an eye on her. Marble
Hi Marble, how did it all go? hoping you are both well and happy Ok.. here is the update: Friday night.. she pooped with a bit of blood.. I totally freaked out Rung medical emergency and they advised to watch her for 24hrs before taking her in. Ruled out Parvo. Told me to stop puppy food and change to chicken and rice Sat morning: stool was firmer (but not 100%) Rung the vet and asked if i should come in.. they advised to watch her for anotehr 24hrs Sun day: Morning - stool was the same (firmer but not 100%). Sun afternoon.. stool went back to diarrhea. I took her to the vet. The vet advised it is extremely common in puppies to have diarrhea. As long as she is not vomiting, lathargic and sluggish then it is a good sign. The vet advised to continue with chicken and rice and they gave me Scourban to add in her food. (no idea what is scourban). Vet said to watch her, if she has not stopped diarrhea by wednesday then bring her back in Sun night: She still has not pooped Monday morning: not sign of poop But she is peeing heaps now. Will check on her poop when i get home today and keep you all posted.
