Desexing A Labrador

Just gave our local Vets a call and they informed me that the price for desexing Fraser will be $130. I thought it was pretty cheap for an operation of that nature but perhaps that is the going rate? I'm not too sure... either way I think we will be booking him in for next Friday to get the "chop".

Sticks I reckon thats a good price assuming they are a good vet!! Go for it!! Will be really interested to hear how you get on.

Well from someone going through this now... I say CHOP EM!!! My goldie is going in tomorrow morning for his knakkers off!!! heis now 15months of age... has not conformed well in the hip for show and therefore I and his breeder have decided not to show and breed him. Along with this about 3 months ago his personality changed a bit too. He has alwasy been the perfect puppy and young male. squatted to wee.. never marked never got grumpy at other entire males and then suddenlythe leg was cocking... he was marking over his sister and started letting me know when a bitch was coming in or going out of season that came to my salon. The final straw was the showing of dominance to other entire males and that "manly" smell they can get. So Ive booked him in for the chop 8.30 tomorrow morning. And I cant wait. I bought him with the mind to show and breed but that hasnt happened so Im getting them off!

Will let people know how he goes but I tell you Im not going to miss the whining and whinging are bitches in season I tell you. Or the male deafness that caused me to stop taking him to puppy parks offlead cause he wouldnt listen to me once he got his nose on the ground.

Wont miss it a bit.. I saw off with their balls! they'll never suspect a thing!

and if my husbands notcarefull he'll be next :D :D :p :p

ps. im paying around $350 so I think you are getting a really good deal. Just make sure they will give him plenty of fluids and after op care.

Payed $137 to get Ebon desexed at FountainGate vets (a few months ago) so sounds like the going rate around our area. Would highly recommend them as good vets and also their association with Pets @ Home (the clinic actually shares the building) who have taken the move to stop selling puppies and kittens and set up an adoption centre instead.

There are some alternatives if you don't want to castrate your dog.

One is vasectomy and the other one is chemical sterilisation. Both methods prevent unwanted puppies, but leave hormonal level intact.
